I figured it out about those young girls dancing to "All the Single Ladies"
I was talking with my students today and they reminded me that in Alvin and the Chipmunks the little girl chipmunks dance to the song.
Don't think it makes it right, just figured out where they would have seen it before!

Sorry to crash but I saw yesterday in Extra (I think) the mom of one of the girls was saying that the idea using the song came from that movie and the girls wanted to do the moves as the chipmunks..

The song is a pretty popular song so I don't fault the song choice on this one.
I fault the clothing & choreography. I thought it was a cross between a beauty pageant & a strip club.

I don't thing the song is a bad choice either. It was played on almost every radio station and really isn't bad.
I think the problem is the costumes and some of the choreography.

Saw the parents on tv and they said it wasn't meant for the internet. What world are they living in? Also they said it's just dance moves. Um, no it's not, esp when you combine it with the clothing. If it was just dance moves, they should have been wearing more clothing than that (and certainly less lingerie looking clothing).

Ok- I personally feel the song was a great song to dance to. It's catchy, popular, and upbeat. I don't see the song as the issue at all. However, there other other dance moves that the choreographer could have made up. It did not have to mimic Beyonce (who is 28 and not 8)
The parents say they saw the chipettes dancing that way and never saw beyonce's video. I find that hard to believe. Even if they never saw the Beyonce video- their teacher is showing them the moves. I highy doubt they relied on the chipettes to teach them.
No denying they rocked it but come on 8 and 9 years old???? Too mature of a routine IMO.

I agree with all. I did see the video but not the news story with the parents. I'm sure it's in a different state, with different views on competitive dance but I still think the moves and costume were not age appropriate.
How does one even teach an 8 year old a dirty dance pelvic thrust??? More booty action Susie. Arch your back more Katie. Really snap it forward Danielle. 
They can't even get Kate Gosslin to move her booty like that on Dancing with the Stars! 
It's not right and dancing sure has come a long way since I've done it. A friend of mine has her girls in dance and even though the teacher asks for bright red lipstick and blue eye shadow, she'll only do sheer lipgloss. It's too much for little girls IMO. The make up is a whole other post!

I don't blame the kids one bit. I doubt they think they're doing anything wrong. What the heck do they know? All they know is that they are working hard and having fun. It's the teachers I blame and the industry for making such moves normacly. Also for the parent to accept it as normalcy.
