I finally took those first steps

And thank you all who guided me in the right direction.

I called insurance on Tuesday, and we're well covered. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I have an appointment with Dr. Goldschlag on 9/15. Looking forward/a bit apprehensive.

Can anyone tell me what your 1st appt./consultation was like? Was there a physical exam? Just questions? Should I bring DH (who already put in for the day off Chat Icon )?

Any advice is appreciated, and again, THANK YOU to all of you who pointed me in the right direction.

Re: I finally took those first steps

I am glad you are on your way to some answers!!!!

Our first appt was actually a breeze since we knew we were dealing with Male Factor. We sat in our RE's office & he discussed the protocol that we would follow & what the "worst" case scenario was. I did have an internal sonogram & some bloodwork to make sure we were not dealing with any other factors. Once that was done, we went back to his office & he discussed with my husband that we were "lucky" to be dealing with only Male factor since it is the easiest to overcome.

DH did come with me & our appt was around 45 minutes

Good luck Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: I finally took those first steps

It's great to hear that you are moving forward!

At my first appointment, I first went over my entire medical history, etc. with the doctor. He then explained what he thought I was dealing with and what the options/treatments are. Then he did an internal sonogram and I had some blood drawn for genetic testing. The last thing I did was meet with a nurse who went over more information regarding what I was going to do the following cycle.

Because I was mid-cycle, I did not go for CD3 bloodwork and an HSG until the following cycle. DH had already been for a SA so there was nothing else for him to do.

DH did not come with me and I don't think he needed to be there. If DH already took the day off, then it may be good for him to come.

Re: I finally took those first steps

Dr. Goldschlag is my doc and you are going to love him. He is a very take charge doctor and if you want to be aggressive he will do everything in his power to get you pregnant.

My first appt. was alot of paperwork then an internal sono and another pap then a TON of bloodwork and finally we discussed how aggressive i wanted to be. I told him I want to be pregnant next month lol and he said OK here we go and I have a complete plan set up and am well on my way.

His nurse is a complete sweetheart and the office manager is great as well.

Let me know if you have any other questions about him.

Good for you Chat Icon

I had a brief phone consult then DH and I went in for a 90 minute in person consultation with the specialist that included a lot of Q & A, BW and a sono. Prior to the consult the office mailed me a ton of paper work to complete and submit before the appointment. The entire experience was a little nerve wracking (mostly the anticipation of the appointment) but overall it was informative and made us feel like we were being proactive.

In regards to your insurance; try and find out exactly what your covered for. For example, we are covered for all office visits and diagnostics but are only covered up to $3K each for IF treatments such as IUI and IVF. Don't accept a simple blanket statement of "you have coverage." You want details bc all of these things start to add up. Also check out what meds you are covered for. Your RE office will do this but it is always good to check on your own.

Good luck!!!
