I got an interview! And I need suggestions on a 10 min literacy demo lesson
I got an interview yay! The school wants me to prepare a 10 min literacy lesson on any grade of my choosing, grades 1-6 since im elementary ed.
This will be preformed in front of a hiring committee and I have to bring all my own materials and such.
I'm pretty familiar with literacy in grades 1, 2 and 5 if thats helps. I just need to brain storm some great ideas.
TIA!!
ETA- the interview/demo lesson is monday

Re: I got an interview! And I need suggestions on a 10 min literacy demo lesson
Congrats! For second grade, I would do a lesson on character traits using an excerpt from a familiar book..putting the excerpt on an overhead projector and discussing a part of the book that highlights character traits. I hope this makes sense. Another option would be teaching about a graphic organizer...people seem to love that, too...oohh..here's another GOOD one..there's a book called "Teaching (1st, 2nd, 3rd) graders to write poetry" (something like that) and you can make transparencies of some of those kids' poems and use it to get kids to write their own..it's fun and always worked for observation. If you need any more info. or I think of anything, I'll let you know! Good luck!! :)

great ideas
I was thinking character traits, I have a lesson written on that.
The demo is not going to be done on students tho.
Hmmm where can I get the teaching poetry book that sounds fun, and might be a good reference for later.

congrats---i would suggest doing a demo on one of the ela testing strategies....the test is what is ruling now in most school districts...i think they would be impressed if you come with a lesson on that (not on multiple choice, but if your lesson was designed around this, I think it would be a good idea. Good luck!
