An interview with a brief history lesson
Interviewer: So you are from NY
Me: I am originally from Ohio but I spent the last 8 years in NY
Interviewer: Do you know the textbooks you learn from up there are wrong?
Me: Really?
Inter: The South won the civil war but the Northerners put it in writing that they won. Southerners have pride and would never admit defeat.
Me: Wow, that is very interesting. I will have to Google it when I get home.
Inter: Google is wrong, too.
Me: Oh, that is terrible.
Inter: I know because (I forget exactly what she said but it went like this) my great great great (yada yada) Grand Daddy fought for the South and he was a stubborn man.
Me: Then of course, you must be well informed.
Inter: Thank you for coming, it was a pleasure meeting you.
Me: The pleasure was all mine.
********************************
My tongue was bleeding when I left because I had to bite down so hard not to laugh at her. If the conversation would have gone on another two minutes, I would have fell out the chair from laughing so hard.
She could not have been serious but oh she was!!

Silly Yankee, don't you know our books are all wrong? And those damned Google guys are in on the conspiracy.
Meanwhile....how was Whiskey Road?

What was I supposed to say? You know people down here carry shotguns and I was not willing to risk setting her straight. Besides, even if she is certifiable...it was a great opportunity!

No lockup but a very interesting history lesson in lieu of an actual interview.

Re: An interview with a brief history lesson
You are better than I, I would have had to ask for a complete and thorough explanation of why there is no slavery after the war if they won....
Well at least you filled her need to taunt a yankee. Too bad it turned out to be a *fake* interview though.

The punch line is this really transpired this morning and not in 1955.

Not to make it worse, but I actually went to college with a girl who was from the "deep south." I swear to you she was completely convinced that Jewish people actually had tails and horns. I wish I were kidding.

I didn't have the heart to tell the crazy woman I was a Jewish Yankee. She probably would have replaced the chair I was sitting in and sprayed the whole place with Lysol.
Even after this odd experience, I went on another interview at a different location. The second one went well and no civil war talk.

We do. We just push them back in to blend in with everyone else. But behind closed doors....
Oh trust me, I have heard that one before and I have also been accused of being a "Christ Killer." Truth is, people are often afraid of what they don't know. There aren't a whole heck of a lot of Jewish populations in the deep south. It doesn't make it right, but I just at it.
As for me, I try to ask questions and inform myself before making such sweeping generalizations about people I know very little about.
