I got some stage 1 meat jars...the beechnut ones
i'm starting with chicken. How much do I give for the first time? once they get the hang of the meat that you introduce how many tbsp a day of it should they have.
Also as an additional question how many tbsp of fruit and veggies should they be having at 8-9 months old.

Re: I got some stage 1 meat jars...the beechnut ones
I don't measure by Tbsp.....but don't be surprised if he doesn't like the taste of meat right away. I would start with 1/2 the jar and give more if he wants. Kerri will only eat the meat if it is mixed with a veg or a fruit.
I don't measure by tbsp. with veg or fruit either...she has a whole stage 2 jar everytime she eats fruits and veg.
ETA...Kerri eats 1/2 of a stage 2 meat jar for dinner....I see you got stage 1 so maybe he would eat the whole thing

Re: I got some stage 1 meat jars...the beechnut ones
I've never measured what I feed my daughter except the cereal to mix it up and I even started doing that by eye. Just feed him, he'll let you know when he's done. There's no magic formula. You'll make yourself nuts trying to remember how much of what to give when. He's old enough and healthy enough. Just feed him, he'll be fine.

I agree with everyone else, no measurements, start with a jar and see how it goes. I would have bought the stage 2 meats, the stage ones are kind of gross IMO!

that jarred meat is NASTY!!!!!! It was the only thing that Ryan would not touch. I could only get him to eat the ones mixed wioth veggies or fruit.
And I dont think I ever measured anything!

Re: I got some stage 1 meat jars...the beechnut ones
What's the difference between stage 1 and 2? are stage two the ones mixed with vegetables?
So I started with a tbsp of the chicken and he did not like the taste at all. He made a face that said "what the heck is this crap" He even started to cry a little bit.
I mixed it with fruit and then he ate it.

Try some real people food for this poor kid!! The dish that the previous poster mentioned sounded delish!! Andd if you cook one dish, it lasts for at least 2 weeks!!!
And I agree...don't measure, just feed the kid until he has had enough. He will let you know!!

DH just made DD her first chicken dish. it's the chicken, sweet potato and apples recipe from Annabel Karmel's book. she ate a bit (maybe a tablespoon or so) along with an apple, pear and cinnamon puree she loves from the book as well. she didn't spit it out (which did happen when we introduced peas), so we'll increase the amount as she likes!
if your DS doesn't go for the jarred stuff, try making some, it's soooooooo good!
I think it's what we are going to end up doing if he doesn't take to the jarred meats. My mom makes good homemade chicken soup so the next time she makes it i'm going to ask her to put some meat aside along with the veggies. My mom lives next door.

Re: I got some stage 1 meat jars...the beechnut ones
I never fed jarred meats alone I do feed it to my DD, but its always mixed with a veggie. And I use Gerber only because its a smoother texture than Beechnut.
And I never measure. for dinner, I'll mix a Stage 2 veggie (4 oz) with 1 jar of meat (2 oz) and she eats it all and then some.

Thats such a great idea! Mom's chicken soup was one of the first thing that Noah ate when he started to feed himself! Now, I boil up some root veggies in some chicken stock early on in the week and give him carrots to chew on. He loves them! Good luck! I bet he will LOVE Grandmas chicken soup!!!

Re: I got some stage 1 meat jars...the beechnut ones
My Dr suggested 1 tbs at night with dinner then try once they get the hang of the taste try 1/2 jar and eventually whole jar. Don't be surprised if the baby HATES the meats my DS does and would ONLY eat the stage 2 mixed meats like chicken with pear or chicken with apple ,beef with carrot so we had to skip stage 1 but I didn't mind b/c I already knew he was not allergic to apples, carrots or pear since he had them in stage 1.You may have to experiment. And I was actually pretty bad with the measurements I just fed him until he stopped! I also pured homemade chicken soup and he ate that. Also just an aside- he HATED beech nut but will eat Gerber- I don't know try different brands... and try real people food before you decide the baby hates a food like chicken b/c my son will eat real people food and is not so fond of baby meats! Good Luck!
