I gotta tell yas about my commute home last night
What an ordeal.....
So, stupid me, decided to stay at work till 6:20
I was in Manhattan and I honestly did not think it was that bad.
We were working on a new business presentation and I didn't want to bail on my team, so I worked the full day.
I go outside and catch a local 3rd avenue bus, with my goal of getting to 57th and 3rd, so I can catch my express bus into Queens. 57th and 3rd is the last stop for the express bus in the city, and I figured I'd get the bus there to avoid all the city traffic.
Smart move....
I get on the local bus at 6:30 at 42nd and 3rd.
We move 11 blocks in ONE HOUR
I have NEVER seen the cars at such a stand still - -not even during the blackout of 2003.
So, I get off at 53rd and 3rd at 7:30 and walk to 57th street, to find a virtual standstill of cars and buses.
I didn't feel like waiting for hours and getting home at 11, so I decided to take the train home.
This would involve catching the 6 at 51st street, transfer at 42nd Street to the 4, transfer at Fulton Street to the A Train, and to my stop at Rockaway Blvd. to catch a local bus which would be a 15 minute ride at most.
It sounds long, but it really isn't, plus I figured at least you move underground, and my area isn't as populated, so the bus ride wouldn't be so bad.
So, I start on my journey and we are making pretty good time - the cars are not that packed, I had a seat and was reading a book.
I'm on the A, and almost near my stop, when all of a sudden, we come to a dead stop in the tunnel.
5 minutes go by
Finally the conductor comes on and says, there is a power outage in the stations ahead and service is suspended.
I have never had a panic attack before, but I came close last night. I had trouble breathing and I started to sweat. My heart was racing
The cell phones didnt work, so there was no way to call. And with a power outage, you never know how long it's gonna last. I resigned myself to the fact that I'd either be sleeping on the train or walking on the tracks. I was more worried that I was unable to reach Boosh and tell her what was happening, because I know people at home would start to panic as the night went on.
After a half hour, we THANKFULLY start moving and get to the next station. The doors open and we are told that there is still an outage and we're held here indefinitely. I was a bit calmer because if I wanted to, I could at least get out of the station and make phone calls. The only problem is that the station is not in a good area and I wasn't sure how I'd get home from there. I'd have to start wandering around looking for local buses. Boosh wouldn't know where to get me. My dad would but his car was covered and it was still bad.
So I waited on the train - and thankfully we started to move after 15 more minutes.
After all was said and done, I got home close to 10, after leaving at 6:20.

What a nightmare! I am so glad you're ok! This is truly one of my subway nightmares.
If you ever get stuck anywhere along the A line close to where we live, give me a call, if I'm home I'll pick you up and give you a ride home.

The non-phonage? Well in the off chance that it happens that you can't get to your station, but you CAN use a phone and boosh can't get you...
I know, it would never happen, but if it did..NOT a problem

I am just glad you are safe. I would have felt panicky too. Lately, the subway experiences I have been having have left me feeling terrified.
