I guess my shed is a kitty maternity ward
Last year I found a litter of kittens in my shed. Well just about an hour ago I went in the shed to get some folding chairs and I see this teeny tiny little face looking at me, I jumped back because I thought at first it was a mouse. I think there are 4 kittens. I called a local rescue group who told me they couldnt come until Friday maybe Saturday.
I'm so not a cat person but I feel bad, would it be bad to bring a blanket and some food for the mother into the shed?

Honestly if they are strays I'd do anything from a distance. You cannot know for sure if they are disease-free, or even if she will care for the kittens after you have been around them. If you throw in a blanket near them & they want it they will make a nest.

Re: I guess my shed is a kitty maternity ward
we always take care of stray kitties in the backyard. give them a blanket and some water. thank goodness the rescue is coming on friday--i've never heard of anyone coming to the house. we always caught them and brought them to NSAL (or inside my mother's house!)
the poor babies will freeze. is their mommy around? i would definitely put something out for them that they could use if they wanted.

Yeah like the others said, you can put something there and they will take it if they want it.

I never heard of a rescue coming to the house.
What place did you call?
ETA - I'm just asking because there are some places (like "almosthomeli") that say they are no kill shelters, but then their animals end up in municipal shelters. I would wonder about the motives of a place that would actually pick up a stray. You can't even drop a stray cat off at a municipal shelter - most are full

Yeah - I'd like to know too, I called 5 or so different shelters and none of them were taking kittens. So now they are just living 'around' the neighborhood.... right now 2 are in my basement recuperating from yesterday's neutering.

Re: I guess my shed is a kitty maternity ward
I'm in Staten Island, we have many many feral cats where I live. The place I called is actually a small group of women who take the animals to a shelter. We had a lot of incidents about 2 years ago with people poisioning the cats because they became such a problem, so the women made up this group.
