I had my first run in with the dog destroying baby things
Rule #1 of having an "Oscar." Don't let him near anything stuffed. Well, DH and I were sitting on the floor of the soon to be baby room, looking at the bedding and accessories we bought. Oscar was in and out of the room and he mostly seemed disinterested. We hadn't noticed that he stole the little music box pillow that I bought. I should not have put our shopping bags on the floor!!! When I found him his nose was covered in stuffing and he ran under the bed. The pillow is entirely de-stuffed but the music part still works. We already know that we will be buying more than one of any stuffed item that the baby likes. This is not going to be an easy dog to have with a baby but I have said a million times that I am determined to make it work (even got my Preparing Fido CD all ready to play). Now I feel bad because if we were not out shopping for baby furniture, or if we were not worried about my cardiac complications in the heat, we might have gone to a dog park on a weekend like this.

oh no!!
the other day i found one of the baby's stuffed toys in my dogs bed...thankfully my 3.5 lb Yorkie is not capable of destroying the baby's toys, but still...
we have to start putting the toys out of reach i guess!!!
ETA: What do you think of the "Preparing Fido" CD? I've been wondering if I should get it???

I have an Oscar too, and he is the same way. You make it work, it will get better.

Re: I had my first run in with the dog destroying baby things
My dog is a GIANT Oscar...103lbs...we already know the stuffed toys will be the biggest challenge. Funny, when we go to other people's homes with children he will not bother their toys at all, but in HIS house, oh boy, it's a different story....
he LOOOVES STUFFIES!

A little advice-train your dog not to do that. The wya we do it is when ouir dogs are caught in the act of doing something bad lower the tone of your voice and make it sound like a growl saying NO! It works!

That dog, if he's not stealing cookies off the table.... Kerie, you should've kept him between your legs, then you would've known what he was up to. (Her dog kept going between my legs when I was pregnant and at her house...and he's a "weiner" dog. )

I may have to start buying baby toys now, just to condition Bonnie not to play with things that aren't hers.

The only problem with the Preparing Fido CD is that I have to be willing to start to listen the baby sounds when I play it!!! I was also told to start to carry around a doll. I have to find a non-stuffed doll, though.
