Small dog owners
Do you talk your dogs to a dog park? We did once and Denver was really scared with all the big dogs coming over to sniff him. He kept hiding behind DH's legs. Just wondering if you know of any small dog friendly dog parks.

Re: Small dog owners
West Hills now uses the older park for a small dog run and the newer one which is bigger for the big dogs. The park in Wantagh also has a small dog park next to the big dog park.

Re: Small dog owners
Dh's family has large and small dogs and about once a week we do a social gathering, so the dogs can start to get used to one another. Our puppy isn't fully immunized to go out into public just yet, but she's starting to get used to being around other dogs and being less afraid.

Re: Small dog owners
My dog has a Napolean complex and he wants to be with the big dogs. He gets right in to their groups. He usually doesn't pay as much attention to smaller dogs or he does not play with them for as long. It's tough for us b/c I feel like I have to really watch him when he mixes with dogs that are big enough to eat him for dinner.
ETA: A lot of the city runs have separate areas. Also, if you can find a group for your dogs breed, they have meetups in some parks and on those days you kind of know the breed and sizes for the majority of the dogs that will be there. If your dog is a mix, just pick a small breed and check out their meetup. There's no requirement that every dog has to be that breed.

Re: Small dog owners
I have gone to dog parks. My dog always gets bullied by large dogs. Or they hover over him.

Re: Small dog owners
I also wanted to add that my Chihuahua does not know how small he is. He picks fights with Mastiffs & Pit bulls when we go to PetSmart. This is why I carry him in a bag other wise he'd get himself into serious trouble.

Same with Holden. At the vet once, he tried to go after a rottweiler. The bigger the dog, the more he barks at it. He loves when we go for walks and pass homes with big dogs. As he walks by, he holds his head high and wags his whole backside

Re: Small dog owners
I tried with Bruno but since he's such a momma's boy, he just sat underneath my legs.
