I hate my Dyson! Want to throw it away!!!

I bought a Dyson about a month ago. I got the DC14. I don't have any pets so didn't need one of the powerful ones to remove pet hair and didn't think it was necessary to spend an extra $100 for the "ball".

Well when I try to vacuum my area rug in my LR I have to put it on the bare floor setting or else it makes a horrible loud noise that just tells you something is wrong. And then on the bare floor setting, the brushes don't spin so it doesn't really get my rug good and clean. All it does is surface clean it.

I can't stand it!!! I wish I had my $65 vacuum from Target back.

Anybody else have this problem? Or have any suggestions for me. My DH will want to divorce me if I tell him the $400 vacuum I HAD TO HAVE sucks!

I don't have the DC14. I have the ball and we've had it for over 3 years and it still works great.

Maybe try calling Dyson and explaining the problem. It could be a lemon.

Or just try returning it since you've only had it for 30 days.

I hated my Dyson...they suck...and not in the good way a vacuum should!! they are highly overrated!!

We've had our Dyson for over 5 years now and it runs like its still brand new. Sorry to hear of your problems. But maybe you got a lemon or possibly one someone else had returned? I would return it and get another.

I have a love/hate relationship with my Dyson....i love what it picks up from my carpet BUT HATE that god awful horrible sound it makes when something isn't level.

Just a suggestion....try vaccumming in a different direction, if that makes sense. There are 2 spots in my living room where the floor, I guess, is uneven and that sound happens, but if I vaccumm from the other direction, it doesn't happen. Stupid, I know!

if you are really that unhappy, return it. Vaccumming isn't a chore anyone really like in the first place why hate the tool you use too.

You can call the hotline and they'll walk you through it.

They had me take out the rubber strip in the front of the vacuum (its a long thin strip).

Also, when you are on your rug, shut the machine off and then twist the settings from bare to rug about five times. This supposedly resets the height difference.

Then, pull the handle all the way to the floor and bring it up again.

Try it and see if it still occurs -- and then call the hotline.

Oh, and I sometimes lower my arm when vacuuming so the "stick" is closer to the ground.

I have DC 17 and LOVE it.

just did my staircase...sucks up so much.

if you don't love it, take it back.

we have the absolute asthma, the air feels so clean after I use it.

Some area rugs and Dyson's don't agree. Dyson came out with the DC11 which had a air driven head but it didn't sale very good so they discontinued it. Now everyone seems to want one again so they are giving it another try and it's called the DC22.

I wanted a Dyson forever, but based on consumer reports and other reviews went with Kenmore Intelliclean and LOVE it...and I could make another dog out of all the dog hair it picks up all the time!...really its great!

Depending where you bought it, I would return it as defective and call it a day.

With a Lab that never stops shedding, my Dyson is a Godsend. I have the yellow one, forget what the name is, but we bought it four years ago I think.

I would absolutely use the advice a PP said and/or call them to return or get it fixed! You should have something perfect, spending that kind of money.

If it's a thin area rug (not a thick pile), the carpet setting won't work. You'd have to use the extension wand. Same thing was happening to me.

i dislike it as well. my parents have the animal because they have 2 dogs. when i lived there and vaccuumed all the dog hair would get wrapped around the tube where all the brushes are,. id have to get a sissor a cut it all out, we had to do this a lot. we had that happen with other vaccuums, but it was much more frequent. and the animal was made for pets.

my parents dyson always made funny noises as well. sounded like it was broken

i also hated emptying the container. all the dirt and hair would stick to the top and i awlays had to stick mny hands in it or bang hard to get it out and dust went everywhere

i also hate the cord, it was alwaysd in my way and you have to hold onto it when you vaccuum.

i have a kenmore canister and it is great
