I have $680 left in my healthcare FSA to spend before 3/31
Please give me suggestions on what to get so I don't lose my money.
I just reordered my contacts - $200, so I have $480 to go.
What are big ticket FSA eligible items I can buy?
Stocking up on OTC meds is not a great option bc I'm currently PG and can't take anything anyway and I don't want to buy something and have it sit in my cabinet for 6 months and expire.
Thanks!!

What about a breat pump? Would that be eligible?

Designer prescription sunglasses?
Bandaids and such - instead of OTC meds?

Wipes and A&D oinment are FSA eligible. Might be worth stocking up with a new baby coming.

Good suggestion on the diaper cream. I didn't realize wipes were eligible!!
I'm going to look that up.
Thanks!

I think your ds is old enough to be on children's tylenol, motrin, etc now. Do you have current bottles of both infants and children's for both kids? Children's benedryl in case the baby has an allergic reaction to food.
If you know it's going to be a boy and you are having him circumcised you'll need gauze pads and vasoline.
I had a separate rectal thermometer for DS that I kept in his room so it was easy to grab if he spiked a fever at night.
New humidifier for the baby's room?

Yeah, I just checked mine and it just says "diaper cream ointment" so I'm not sure wipes are covered.

Re: I have $680 left in my healthcare FSA to spend before 3/31
Excuse my question but how are you eligible to make a purchase by 3/30/10?
I thought the program ended on each Dec 31 at the end of each year but you could submit your claims until the end of March the next year.

We are fully stocked on meds and already have a humidier for DS and the new baby.
I'm not due till August, and this is for FSA 2009, so I have till 3/31 to use it, so the circumcision/hospital stay, etc, would be for FSA 2010.

There is a 3 month "Grace Period" past the end of the year, so you can actually still submit eligible items purchased up to 3/31/10 for reimbursement for FSA 2009.
I called to confirm and they have accepted all my claims so far this year.

Oh, sneaky, but I like it!!
I buy something like a super fancy breast pump, get my money back, and return it, never opened, never touched.
No harm, no foul, right?
Thank you!!!! I may just end up doing that!!!!

Check and make sure breast pump is covered. This list I looked at said only if medically necessary.

You make a legitimate point and yes, I will think twice before doing it.
I guess my reasoning on why I don't believe it's fraud is that one of the factors of fraud is injury to another person. I would have to be depriving someone of something or hurting them in some way by my actions.
Who would I be defrauding? FSA is money I have contributed from my income. I'm simply getting money that belongs to me back to me.
I would just hate to lose out on MY money or spend it frivolously on things I don't need just to get it back.
I do appreciate the insight. I never saw it that way, but I do see your point.

Adult sunscrean AND baby sunscreen
A&D is good, but I found there are things that Balmex/Butt Paste/Triple Paste/Aquaphor work better for....I'd stock up on all of them.
TUMS - you might need them late pregnancy!!
If you go to CVS.com, you can search for "FSA eligible items" and I guess cross-reference with your own company's list....
edited b/c i realized pads aren't eligible...

Then you should lower your FSA contributions if you find that you have this problem frequently.
This is one of the reasons why I don't bother with an FSA account. Too many issues with having to make sure the "money gets spent".

I have reduced it significantly for 2010.
I had many coworkers tell me that "babies are expensive. they are at the dr. all the time" and that it would be wasteful not to participate in FSA. They suggested an amount which far exceeded my needs. Now in my 2nd year with DS, I know how much I really spend so I adjusted accordingly.

No, you wouldn't be causing harm to anyone else, but you would be cheating the system by getting a tax free reimbursement and then returning the item. In the grand scheme of things, it's not a huge deal, but you are still taking advantage of a service designed to legitimately help. Perhaps as another poster suggested, next year you could do a lower amount so you're not left with a surplus you feel you have to spend so you don't lose it.

Agreed. So, we're back to my original post of "what can I legitimately buy that I can be reimbursed for?"
