I have a ? About Rubrics ....I'm not a teacher

Can you bend a little on how you grade the test .... My son got a 3 on his math test .... I spoke to her and told her how happy I was with him....and she replied that she had to work really hard on his paper from give him a 3.... (I just thought whatever he got a 3 a 3 it is........ Now on his reading super kids test he got a 2 I feel like their really was not many answers wrong..... So what I'm asking I feel like she cut him slack on the math but this she did not on the super kids test by no means am I saying oh just give him a 3. I'm wondering how it works...... also I hate what that # 2 says Partial understanding ... Thanks

I'm not sure of the rubric you are talking about, but if there is a free response section sometimes you can *find* points by rereading the answers several times and trying to tease out points - looking for words and ideas to match rubric.
