I have a fetal echo today, has anyone ever had one?

The doctor recommended that we get one due to family history. I am not too concerned that there will be anything wrong with the baby's heart, but we figured we might as well do it b/c you never know and it would help to find out early if there was something. Just wondering what exactly is done at this appointment. Will I see the baby again?

I had one..It took a while because the baby had his hand in front of his chest so she couldn't get one shot she needed. It was just an external sono mostly of the heart only didn't really see the baby all that much..The Dr reviewed all the pictures with me at the end.

I had one - it's just done as an external sonogram.

Have fun watching your baby, it's a little longer then a regular sono!

I had one with DD. It's just like a regular sono, but they focus on the heart

Mine took 3 1/2 hours though because my DD would not cooperate! Normally it's a 20-30 minute sono.

Had one for both pregnancies b/c I am a type 1 diabetic. They are interesting b/c you really get to see details of the heart, the blood flow, the chambers and get a nice picture of the baby. Also, i found out the sex during the sonograms. If you have a good dr. or sonogram tech, they can really give you a good description of what is going on.
