I have a silly question about chocolate...
I will be in the city today and was thinking of stopping by the Hershey Store and getting a christmas gift for someone. It's this cute tin with chocolates inside. The cover has this cute wintery design on it. Anyways if I get it now do you think the chocolates will go bad by christmas time? Should I keep the tin in the fridge? It's a gift I plan on mailing to someone in a box so it will go out like a week or 2 before christmas. It's just a little thought i'm sending to someone who was very thoughtful to my DS last year on Christmas. Also would it be cheesy to send them a box of hot chocolate as well? They would be from the Hershey store too.

Hersheys...probably not. it's not really meant to be "fresh".
chocolate from a chocolatier is a different story, and I'd try to keep it to two weeks.
ETA: my "probably not" refers to the question...will it go bad? answer, probably not...just in case there is confusion.

Actually, you aren't supposed to put chocolate in the fridge. Storing them at a cold temperature and then taking them out again is what causes the chocolate to turn whitish in color.
Coincidentally, I was just looking at an article today about expiration dates and it said Hershey bars are good up until 1 year after production date, so you are probably safe until Christmas.

Think of it this way- if you go back a month from now you'd probably end up with that same tin- I doubt they dump them after a few weeks...
I say get it now....
