I have a weird question about coloring and toddlers.
When you toddler colors in a coloring book, are they aware of the shapes and figures?
If do - do they color in those shapes or is it more of a scribble all over the page kind of a thing?

Hmmm... she's definitely AWARE of the shapes and tries to color in them, but her coordination isn't nearly good enough so it ends up just looking like scribble all over the page.

Total scribble and I have to color with her. Only problem, she sits on the coloring book and I'm supposed to somehow color around her.

I think they only recognize shapes when they are coloring on white leather chairs.

as a toddler, DD was definitely more picasso than da vinci.
she started getting better in 4 yr. old preschool with the structure and encouragement from the teacher. a few weeks into K, we had to attend a mandatory meeting to see her pre-screening results (she had the highest score in the class ) and the teacher was amazed at her coloring ability and drawing skills. (meanwhile, DH thought she was AWFUL) apparently drawing fingers, eyelashes and ears is not normal K work!
so relax, they simply aren't fine tuned enough to do it yet at that age neatly. i'm sure SOME do, but it isn't the norm at all.

Alyssa does the same thing. But as she sits, she spins on the book so I have to keep moving to a different spot to color.
