I keep meaning to share this tip with all of you!
I read something in a womens' magazine last month that I thought was REALLY interesting, and it really works!
You know how sponges get smelly after about a week? Well, if you stick it in the microwave for one minute after each time you use it, they'll stay good forever! This is because the heat from the microwave kills off all the germs that infest the sponge and make it gross.
I just tossed out my sponge after a month because it was looking dirty, but it still smelled brand new!!! Now I don't feel bad using it on the highchair tray because I know I'm not spreading anything gross

Absolutely--I always throw it in right after I've used it.

Thanks for a great tip. I throw away sponges weekly. (I get them at Costco in bulk!)
I run them through the dishwasher everynight but they smell funky to me after a week.

Never run your sponge through the dishwasher. Over time it can ruin the dishwasher. A repairman told me that and said it happens so often!

I also like to run my through the dishwasher. I throw them in the top rack during a cycle and they come out fresh and clean again too.

I actually boil mine, the package says they can be boiled to sanitize. But I too throw them out once a week and I use a different one for DDs stuff, seperate from our other stuff (not that I wash much with my dishwasher being used almost daily at this point).

I *think* the green scouring pad is ok--pretty sure it's plastic and not metal. I use sponges that have a white scouring pad on them, and they've been fine (I watched it the 1st time just to make sure there were no sparks! )

Thanks for another tip!
Do you kow why the sponge would cause problems in the dishwasher?
