I know I'm a die-hard Met fan because...
I went to a yankee game tuesday and was bored out of my mind...even cheering for the opposing team was boring I left around the 4th inning when A-rod hit the HR I think?? but hey the tickets were free!
I also wore my Mets Jersey, and only one nasty yankee fan stuck his finger in my face and yelled boo at me....I pointed my finger back at him and yelled booo f-ing you! I was ready to take the heat for my jersey

you beat me to it!
Actually I've been to TWO Mets games (meaning when they're not playing my Yankees)- not at Shea though. One at Miller Park and the other at Rigley. Both times I wore my Yankee hat and booed the Mets. Oh wait, at Miller Park I think I went so far as to wear my jersey.

Re: I know I'm a die-hard Met fan because...
For a little Friday debate, I'll stir the pot a bit and ask the following.
I never understood why a Met fan or a Yankee fan would wear their team's jersey or hat to another team's game.
I don't mean the Subway Series. If the Mets are PLAYING the Yankees at Yankee Satdium, I can see wearing a Met jersey.
I mean this more when the Mets are playing, say the Astros, and someone shows up in a Yankee jersey and boos the Mets.
Or when the Yankees are playing the Twins, and someone shows up in a Met jersey to boo the Yankees.
My question is...why?
If you're not a fan of the two teams playing, I don't see why you'd wear something that opens yourself up to harassment.
If you're doing someone a favor and going along for a free ticket, fine. You don't have to root for either team - but I can't see enhancing your risk of getting harassed.
I don't condone harassment. If the Mets are playing the Braves and someone is wearing a Braves jersey, I have no problem with that. But when I see a Yankee jersey at a Met-Brave game, I just kinda shake my head.
Same thing would be on the few occasions I've been to a random Yankee game, and I see a random Met jersey.
Doesn't make sense to me.

Couldnt say it any better myself!!! i never wear my jersey unless the mets are playing.. like i am going to Pittsburgh in a couple weeks and the Mets are playing the Pirates.. so therefore i WILL where my jersey.. but not if my team is not playing.. i just sit there and watch the game. i dont condone harrasement either.. it just makes it worse.. and with kids around everywhere it doesnt help the situation

See I wore my Met jersey to the yankee game partly because its personalized, partly because Yankee fans do it all the time at shea, and partly because to show that I am an actual baseball fan.
I was kinda warned by a few people not to do it, but I said f*ck that, I'm ready to take the heat if it's given...At least I wasn't sitting with the "bleacher creatures". But honestly I got more compliments than harrassments, I got more weird looks and stares, but hey im used to being gawked at
I mean its just a Mets jersey at a Yankee Game, what really doesn't make sense to me is chicks that wear HIGH HEELS to baseball games....espcially when they sit really up in the upper deck...all them stairs, I just don't get it.

oh and i wasn't looking for harassment, not in the least bit BUT it did momentarily cure that boring feeling I had at the game. I'm glad the tickets were free, as I will never go to a yankee game and pay for it unless it is a subway series.

Re: I know I'm a die-hard Met fan because...
yeah, i don't get the high heels either
especially walking up and down some of those stairs
I guess my point is, NY fans are probably the most passionate fans in the world.
I remember one time, I was at a Dodger-Giant game in Los Angeles, and the fans on line to get food were a mix between Giant and Dodger fans.
Some Giant fan got on the line, and a Dodger fan turned around and jokingly said "No Giant fans allowed." And they both had a laugh.
Can you imagine the same conversation at a Yankee-Red Sox game? Or a Met-Yankee game?
Those two rivalries are the two most intense rivalries in NY, and arguably in all of sports. Most Met fans, HATE the Yankees and vice versa.
And sadly, because of that, situations happen at game that are less than pleasant. I'd love to do a poll and see which games have a higher incidence of fights in the stands. Yanks-Sox and Yanks-Mets have to be up there.
I go to a Met game to root for my team. I go to any other game not involving the Mets, as a baseball fan. I observe the game and don't cheer one way or the other.
Heck, to your point about wanting to show folks that I am baseball fan, I have worn a Brooklyn Cyclone hat to Yankee games. It's a baseball hat and it's the Met farm team. But that's not glaringly obvious
My point in not wearing a Met outfit to a Yankee game, when they are not playing the Mets, is simply that its not worth the potential aggravation.

oh yes ABSOLUTELY, but like I said I was ready to take the heat, I mean its not something completely negative, I didn't wear a Yankees Suck shirt.

a little harassment is good times! I mean, not the punching, curse like it's your job type...but a little is fun and funny. Not to mention...with the tempers and some of the potty mouths on the players...I think the kids are not phased by the whole aaaaa----hoooolleee pointing routine for the opposing team's fans. I mean...ya can't keep them in a bubble.
As far as another fan coming to the stadium wearing a random other team's logo...hey...whateva! You're kinda looking for it and I just would like to thank them for contributing to my team's revenue for the season.

i get what you are saying... i just really wish sometimes that the New York rivalry was nicer! i hate that the fans get to the point where there are fights, etc. for me, i just still cant wear my jersey to games if they are not playing.. mostly because i dont want to start with fans.. or get harrassed for that matter.. but with that said.. im very sensitive and not tough at all.. so that could be why also

it does keep it interesting afterall, and u gotta expect potty mouths at a BB game you know?
but in general I have always found yankee fans a lil more on the violent side thats JMO tho.
And I didnt give the yankees any revnue well...i did buy that frozen lemonnade, oooo that was so yummy! they got 4.75 out of me not a penny more!

Re: I know I'm a die-hard Met fan because...
I wear a jersey/hat because I'm a baseball fan, and the Yankees are my team! That's why!
I guess I kind of find it random at times when I see fans in the bleachers wearing another team's jersey that's not playing my team at that game. But...hey, you're pledging allegiance to your team, what's wrong with that?
Just a Met fan trying to bust on a Yankee fan, is all. I get it.
And Yankee fans aren't HALF as violent as Red Sox fans...they are BRUTAL. We sit in the bleachers every Saturday and I've never seen anything violent- and if you're gonna have true blue, hardcore fans, they're in the bleachers. It's always in fun...at least where we're at.
I've been acosted by Mets fans at Shea...it goes with the territory.
And as far as the games I've been to where the Yankees aren't playing- I didn't go out of my way to go to these games. I was with a group of people that wanted to go and I of course wanted to see other parks....and it just happened to be the Mets opposing the home team (at Wrigley and Miller Park). Even if it weren't the Mets, I'd STILL wear my Yankee colors. It was just an added element of fun to root against 'em is all!

where are these fights though? I never see them. Think of it this way- the people getting into fights are the fans that give their team a bad name- or are just drunk.

Re: I know I'm a die-hard Met fan because...
ok bear with me- few glasses of wine here.
I will say, I've been to about 3 or 4 major league games where the Yankee weren't playing.
The two where the Mets were playing- I wore my Yankees gear.
One in particular- when DH and I went to see the Phillies in their new ballpark vs. the Brewers. Now that I think about it- I didn't wear anything Yankees!
But I did wear THIS!
I won a Cooperstown Steve Carlton jersey at the game. GO PHILLIES!!
So my point is....I really wore the Yankees gear to feed on the Yanks/Mets rivalry. Hell, it's all in fun, can ya blame me?
oh and FYI...if I go to a baseball game and my Yankees aren't playing....I stay past the 4th inning because I'm a BASEBALL FAN!
