I know this has been asked (can't find the posts) but please help, BTDT moms, how do we stop DD from getting out of her toddler bed at night and coming to our bed?
We converted DD's crib into a toddler bed few weeks ago. She does great going to bed and staying in bed to go to sleep , BUT she keeps waking up in the middle of the night and coming to our room, our bed, the problem is that if she is sleeping with us DH and I can't sleep she moves so much and this and that.... Not only that but we just really want her to stay in her own bed through the night. She did really well in the beginning, this just started about a week ago and I don't know what to do, if I try to put her back in her bed she gets hysterical, which causes her to be wide awake and then she doesn't go to sleep for hours, even in our bed. What do I do? What did you do if you ever had this problem? do you have any advice?
Thank you in advance

DD is gated into her room, for safety reasons, but it does a good job of keeping her out of my room too.

Bribery - I dont know how old your little one is but it worked with our older child - 3. She is really into princesses and kept asking for all this princess stuff so I told her if she slept in her bed for 2 weeks I would buy it for her - she did and I bought it and she stays in there now except for the odd night when she comes out to tell me she has to go to the bathroom.
Also each morning after she slept in her bed for the night I would make a big deal about it and tell her how proud I was of her etc etc
I would not put the gates up but thats just me

We co-sleep half the night. All 3 of my children started doing that when they went into a big bed. My oldest would come into our room around midnight and we just let him sleep with us till morning. He eventually stopped doing it right around the time that # 2 started. Same thing, we just let him stay with us. Luckily HE grew out of it just in time for # 3 to start.
I figure she should stop within the next year or so.
I know that the day will come when I miss having my children climbing into our bed at night, so its one of those things we just went with.

I threaten to make her sleep in the PNP if she doesn't stay in bed. I only had to follow through 1x.

this is what DH and I kept saying the first few nights DD came into our room, but after days and days of her doing this and us not sleeping through the night (especially DH , since he has to work all day and get up early) we are looking for ways to keep her in her bed The biggest problem is how she sleeps when she comes into our bed: she kicks, she pushes, she takes up the whole bed , it's impossible to sleep next to her

We've never had gates in the house, not even when she was an infant (other than in our old apt when she was a baby, we had a gate on top of the stairs ) I especially don't like the idea of having a gate on her bedroom door (for various reasons) , but now I am tempted to put it up

how old is DD?
we have had this problem with DD#1 FOREVER and just got it under control once and for all...
we tried so many different things, then got caught up in making excuses (she was sick, we were traveling, we were just tired, etc.) and couldn't keep it consistent. but it would happen in phases, sometimes we would have weeks/months no issues and then BAM every night she would wake and crawl into bed. we were all walking zombies.
now at 4 what finally worked was a sticker chart. but honestly, i don't think this would have worked any sooner as she just wouldn't have "gotten it". she has a chart on her door, and each night if she stays in her bed she gets to place a sticker in a box the following morning. a row of stickers gets a trip to the craft store and she gets to pick out 1 item to buy. the rule is she is allowed to come into our room once the sun is up and not before then. she could care less about the trip to the store, but loves to place those stickers!
the first few nights we had her calling us from bed (which was hysterical) - first couple nights we reassured by going in and giving her a kiss, then we just called back from our bed "go back to sleep" and she complied
so just as we have DD#1 trained, DD#2 needs to have to her crib converted

I do this too, and didn't realize until this post how common it is. My DS is 16 months old and in a toddler bed. At about 1am, he walks into my room, I swoop him up and feed him a bottle (which he needs - but thins is something that I need to learn how to break). Anyway, I do know how hard it is to sleep with a toddler kicking you in the side - maybe shutting the room or the gate might work for you....my DS would flip out!

We plan to get doorknob covers for the inside of her door so that she can't come out. We have the monitor so we can hear if she needs us.

DD just started doing this too. Up until last night she was waking up screaming and then begged us to come in our room. Last night she just walked over at 4am,, scaring the crap out of DH
I hope we can get her to stop soon. We have plenty of room in our king size bed, but I wind up sleeping on the very edge and she's smack up right against me and I can't move.

DD slept last night (we had a long day and she was exhausted AND went to sleep very late) but then at 8am we woke up to her crying hysterically bc she had fallen off her bed or was trying to get out and she fell ,the way she was crying .... I almost had a heart attack I think we are going to buy her a big girl bed/mattress today , maybe this will help her sleep better (she sleeps in a converted crib/toddler bed now)
Thank you everyone !

What works for us is letting DS#1 fall asleep with us in our bed then when he is out (usually takes only a few mins), I bring him into his bed. He has had a big boy bed for almost a year now (he will be 3 in a few weeks). We had to get a big boy bed b/c DS#2 needed the crib.
Anyway, when he does come into our room in the middle of the night, I bring him back into his room. It started that I would do this several times a night, but now it's usually only 1 or 2 times a night...some nights it's not at all.
IMHO I wouldn't put the gate up for my boys...they would either climb over it and break a leg, or scream bloody murder!
