Re: I know this has kind of been discussed recently
Well I see some of you posting that you give your 6 month old cheese, crackers, bread. I can't see how he can eat this stuff without teeth. Or am I just being over Neurotic?

Nope...he doesnt gag. If anything I cant feed him fast enough!!! My boy LOVES to eat and LOVES food!
ETA: I cut whatever he is eating up in tiny pieces and I always make sure it isnt dry...
ex: I put some broth on the chicken
The end of the bread,,,he just knaws on it and when it gets to soft, I take it away~

Re: I know this has kind of been discussed recently
If you dont feel comfortable giving your son things other people are feeding, I would wait.
I keep saying to DH I want to try gerber puffs and cheerios, even though my boys have teeth, he says we should wait.
Go with your gut feeling, not what others are doing

exactly!!!!!
At first I was scared to give him any food besides baby food..so I let my mom do it. Once you start,,the fear goes away....

What is pastina?
Pastina is a really small pasta shaped like stars. They're pretty teeny. I plan on giving DS pastina after he turns 6 months in a week. As for foods he can eat without teeth, what about yogurt or cottage cheese? I'm also going to ask my Dr. about eggs. Personally, I can't stand them, but I want to expose DS to foods that I don't like.

Re: I know this has kind of been discussed recently
it may ease ur mind to know that children esp babies have really good gag reflex, so dont be nerous- i was nervous at first too....what i usually did was put everything in the cuisinart mini food prep processor, and gave her all that stuff first (peas, carrots, beans, potatoes, chicken....) and YES, pastini rules and DD still loves it, so to make it even healthier, i put grinded chicken or broccoli or cauliflower with it....good luck!

Re: I know this has kind of been discussed recently
You may want to ease into it with mashed food & then move up to less mashed food.
I introduced food very late in the game with my son (at 8 mos). He had this major gag reflex every time we tried food that wasn't completely mashed. He couldn't get used to having lumpy or real food for a while.
I do agree that if you're not comfortable then go with your instincts.

Re: I know this has kind of been discussed recently
DD would rather have adult food then baby food. Within the past few weeks she has gotten 2 teeth. They aren't all the way in yet, so they arent doing much. However, even prior to the teeth I was giving her anything that was safe and anything she showed interest in. They are learning to "chew" with their gums and can do a good job breaking up pieces like that. I just make sure what I give her is a small enough size.

Re: I know this has kind of been discussed recently
First of all I want to say that I am a big believer in that in order for young babies to learn to chew and to move food into the back of their mouths and into their throats, there has to be gagging and spluttering involved. Of course, use your common sense. But I would keep trying if your child gags, if they can't handle it, it will come right out!
I started giving my son rice cakes when he was 5 months old, sometimes he just held them, sometimes he sucked on them but I felt it was good practice for him to put it in his mouth. He sometimes gagged, once he even threw up, but it helped him to learn how to eat.
