Re: i know tylenol is ok but...
My doctor said extra strength tylenol is fine, however, she said not to take tylenol PM, but to take tylenol and a benedryl if I need a sleep aid. Supposedly it is safer, and not just when you're pregnant, always.

Why did your doctor say that taking the drugs separately is safer? Tylenol PM is tylenol plus benadryl. Is it because taking 2 Tylenol PM gives 1000mg of Tylenol (equivalent to 2 extra strength) and 50mg of Benadryl? Aside from being able to control the dosage better, I have not heard of it being safer to take them individually.

She said that Tylenol PM can be addictive.

Another situation of everyone's dod telling you something different! My doctor's office said Tylenol Cold is OK as is Robitussin. If you need something to fall asleep as well, take tylenol cold PM.

Sorry I thought they would have it on there. Maybe look up the generic name of tylenol PM? What ingredient is in the "PM" stuff that is different from reg. tylenol? I think it has codeine in it because I am allergic to codeine and I can never take tylenol PM. Try looking up codeine.

I looked it up both come up as "B - Controlled studies done on animals in reproduction do not indicate risk to the fetus. No adequate and well-controlled studies done on pregnant women"

Tylenol PM is not any more addicting than Benadryl would be since Benadryl is the ingredient in Tylenol PM that makes you fall asleep.
Also, there is definately NO codeine in Tylenol PM. Codeine is a narcotic and could not be sold in an over the counter product.
