Yup! We are!!! But for some reason, I am having trouble finding the "I'm a Buddhist baby who loves Hannukah and Christmas!!" bib... any suggestions???
Actually, the wonderful thing about the Buddhism we practice is that it can be practiced in conjunction with your primary religion. I am what most people would actually consider a "Jew-Bu" (Jewish Buddhist) - its actually quite common!!! I light the menorah all 8 days, and my family gets together every year for a "Latke fest" - its so much fun, and we all give the kids Hannukah gifts... the buddhism part in me believes in karma, rebirth, and the understanding that nothing in life is ever permanent - good, bad, whatever. Every moment is fleeting, and nothingness is essentailly what is lying beneath our delusions... but I digress...
DH does not consider himself Catholic, and practices Buddhism and other Eastern religions, however, his family celebrates Xmas,, and we will be doing a lot with them over the holidays. We celebrate the fun part of Xmas, not the religious part!
Whoa - check me out - getting all deep on a Tuesday afternoon!!!

And your son will be a true citizen of the world, with an understanding an appreciation of the similarities of all of the world's religions... many of which have far more followers than Judaism and Christianity
That's why we attend UUFH, my DC's will know about all of the world's religions.

What's UUFH?
Is that a Unitarian church?
United Unitarian Fellowship of Huntington.
Unitarians don't use the term church because that would imply being exclusive to Christianity.

Yes, we have people of all faiths, many inter-faith couples (probably the majority), many gay couples, young, old, meat eaters, vegans, and yes, transexuals too. Although, the overwhelming maj. are probably similar politically... democrat. Many artists, musicians... very talented people, many politically and socially active... they don't just donate, they "do". They don't turn anyone away.
It's based on humanist principles (the common principles of all of the religions)... there is no dogma of exclusivity... meaning these are our rules, you must follow them exactly as they are handed down, and our way is the "right" way. Our minister's wife was raised Jewish, he was raised Unitarian and he follows a lot of Buddhist practices.
I thought it was going to be "freaky-deeky", too granola-ish.. let's all sit around and sing "Kumbaya" 17,000 times but I really like it. And it's 100% guilt free
Wow, sorry for starting the tangent

How pathetic am I? I looked at the website, loved what I saw, but saw it interfered with my most religious practice - 9:30 Sunday morning kickboxing class....

Maybe I can ask the minister to incorporate some kickboxing moves into the service I mean we did have a service devoted to "Transgender Individuals" so why not kickboxing?...lol.
Actually we can't go right now either due to DC's nap schedule.
Next time we'll go will probably be the Christmas Eve service
