Re: I made the kit-kat cake

I've made this cake twice now...and I have a recommendation for anyone about to try it. I would recommend using a firm cake (like a pound cake) for the cake part.
The first time, I used a yellow cake and when I sliced it, it was a mess because the cake was so soft. The second time, I did a pound cake and it sliced beautifully. I even took a picture because I was so pleased with how it looked. It's also not as sweet as other recipes, which was nice because with the chocolate filling/frosting/m&m's/kitkat combination...it was sweet enough!

Re: I made the kit-kat cake

I made this cake for my mom and brother's birthdays, it was a HUGE hit and sooooo delicious.

I used Duncan Hines' Butter Golden Cake box. One box. Baked in two 9 inch round pans.

Let cool.

Place one cake on cake dish. Ice top.
Place second cake on top. Ice all over.
(I used Duncan Hines' Vanilla icing)

Cut kit kats into 2 piece sections.
Place each piece against outside of cake, firmly. Try not to leave any space between the kit kats.

Wrap a pretty ribbon around cake and make a nice bow.

Drop one entire 12.9 (or 12. whatever) ounce bag of M&M's on top.

Voila! Super easy and OH SO TASTY. Seriously delicious. Sliced easily too.

Re: I made the kit-kat cake

aw! thanks everyone! Chat Icon Chat Icon

I actually used 2 - 9" round pans and made a layer cake, just a regular box mix I used Chocolate Cake, and Chocolate icing, I put some between the layers (I trimmed the layers so they were flat) and on the whole outside, then I placed the kit-kats around the cake, added the bow and then placed the m&m in the center.

I thought that the m&m were going to spill all over when we cut it but it wasn't that bad

HTH!

Re: I made the kit-kat cake

For those that have already made it, do the kit kats fall off once you take the ribbon off & cut the cake into slices?

Not if you ice the outside of the cake and stick them into the icing. The m&m's fall down as you cut it a little, but the kitkats stay nestled in the frosting....mmmm!

The last time I made it, I didn't have any ribbon and was too lazy to get some, so I didn't even put the ribbon around it and it stayed perfectly.

This cake looks like heaven. I am totally adding this to my Thanksgiving dessert table. I hope another occasion pops up in between so I have an excuse to make it.
