Hey...that was me in the liquor store....and yes I was buying a bottle of red wine for myself.
I do have one glass of wine sometimes, the doctor said their is nothing wrong with that, just limit yourself to every once in awhile.
I was having a meltdown because the doctor's office told me I had an elevated AFP level and it could mean spina bifida. Well, the doctor was supposed to call me back to explain what AFP was and he NEVER called. I called the office the next day and they just said to come in the office next week, they don't know why he didn't call back. Can you imagine the nerve of these people ? Telling me over the phone that something may be wrong and then not having a doctor available to ask questions.... Very unprofessional.
So...of course I looked up elevated AFP on the web only to find out that I could have pre-eclampsia and my baby could be born stillborn and my life could be at risk as well.
I also found out the sex of my baby that day...and it's a boy. Ok, I was a bit devastated because I really wanted a girl. I went through 2 invitro's and I have been through years of being infertile. Thank God the 2nd invitro worked. I am 41 and this will be my only pregnancy, so yeah...I was very upset that I will never have a girl.
So...now you can see why I was freaking out and wanted that glass of wine.
Stay positive and good luck...let us know how everything turns out...we are praying for you

Totally AGREE! I've done 1 IVF and 2 FET,this may be my only child and I am not mourning the fact that I may not have both genders. If I became PG again, there is no guarantee that I'll get the opposite gender. No guarantees in LIFe!
Something tells me that this is b/c I cannot imagine anyone going through infertility issues would feel this way! Yes, it is okay to drink a glass of red wine here and there but imo it is not acceptable to drink your troubles away while pg. Hopefully, you drank only one glass.

Oh hey there!!!!!!! I hope you're doing better today. I never meant that you couldn't have a glass of wine!!! Like I said, I didn't see what you were buying. If it was tequila, then maybe we need to talk.
We all have crappy days. Talk it out on here. It helps many of us!!!

yea, i agree
I guess I'm not sure why you think this. I talked with the girl at the store and she explained what was going on. She didn't have to say anything. She came on here to vent, as I told her this site was good for. But some of you take it upon yourself to say that she is faking her situation. We all respond differently to every situation.

As for having low AFP's levels, I wouldn't wish this on anyone.
I would hope that it was a fakie post b/c it is hard to fathom that someone who has suffered with infertility would be DEVASTATED( which is a very strong word) about the gender. All of the Girls I know who are suffering or have suffered with Infertility, would welcome any gender! So yes, this struck a nerve with me b/c it took me so long to get pg and I couldn't imagine ever feeling DEVASTATED over Gender.

def. don't judge her. You never know. I've bought beer for DH, been to bars (having sprite), etc
same here. I have gone to the liquor store many times when i was PG, but it wasnt for me.
Me too....I have been on a few beer runs for my husband and the looks I have gotten from people have been down right disgust. It ticked me off at first but then I realized people are often ignorant and quick to judge.

Its soo crazy how things are.. I have a picture of my mother prego with me with a can of beer in one hand and a cigarette in the other!! I know that was 30 something ummm years ago.. but i just find it funny how others can judge someone simply by the fact that they are in store.

Not a great word choice regardless of IVF or not. A healthy baby of either gender is such a blessing....

I agree her choice of word wasn't stellar, but this is not the place to judge people. She sounds like she has been through a lot and perhaps she was just venting in a safe, neutral environment.

i agree. she's obviously a new poster who doesn't know the "rules" of the board. and if she truly is devastated, we shouldn't judge her. we don't know her background or situation, IVF or not.
give her a break.

Re: I met a pregnant woman at the liquor store today!!
i dont really think it is a matter of judging or not - its a matter of agreeing or not
people respond; that is what they do in a public forum some will agree with others - some wont
that's life
