I need a theme for DS's 1st bday party!

How does everyone pick this? His nursery is all monkeys so I am about done with the monkeys. I have no idea what to pick. He loves yo gabba gabba, but i dont know if I like that as a party theme


Suggestions please?

oh man jo, at least I am not crazy already starting to plan DD's first birthday party! LOL

i am thinking the same thing. but DD really LOVES yo gabba gabba and I think I might do that. *I* want a princess theme but it's not my party :)

You can totally do like cinderella, or belle or the little mermaid. I feel like i have a ton of ideas for girls and NONE for boys!!!

For our DD, she wasn't really "into" anything special so her theme was "balloons".

I wrote the party details on a balloon and mailed it to everyone, had balloon centerpieces on the tables (and I twisted some balloons into giraffes for the tables too).

There were punch balloons for the kids to play with and other random balloons on the floor to kick around. I had a woman come and do balloon twisting (she was AWESOME!) And the party favors for the kids were all stuffed inside balloons. It was fun!

I just looked at tons of catalogs and picked one that i thought was cute.

I think we are going with a jungle safari theme for DS. Other ideas I was tossing around were Dr. Seuss (specifically Cat in the Hat), carnival/circus, Curious George, or just a polka-dot theme.

I did mine based on a book that I love. ds didn't watch any shows at that point and had no favorites so I picked what I wanted for him, thanks in large part to rojerono's beautiful encouragement on here.

so, make the choice special to BOTH of you, b/c it's as much of a celebration of his journey as it is yours.

we picked construction b/c DH is a contractor. It's also b/c his b-day is Memorial Day weekend and I love the yellow and orange colors outside.

It was going to be construction no matter what. LOL! He got so many tool toys when he was born b/c of DH.

He does love Yo Gabba Gabba so maybe his 2nd b-day

We went to a Sesame Street themed b-day and a "rock-n-roll" theme party as well. Both were adorable. For the rock one he wore this cute guitar shirt and there were blow-up guitars and they hired pple to play music, but it was more rockish. A lot of fun
Oh, and also went to a sports themed party. They gave out icecream in those cute, plastic b-ball hats and gave out sippy, straw mugs with the kids name on it and blow up ball and bats. The cake was a diamond shape stadium. They all wore b-ball shirts with their names on it too... the parents and his sister.

I wanted something different too! I finally caved and I'm doing pandas, since he looooves his panda bear. Santa even brought him a pillow pet panda and he brings it all around with him LOL. I feel like this is the one and only bday that you can still do what you want... but somehow make his interests involved LOL.
Some ideas I had were firetrucks, just plain trucks LOL, ducks, prince, cupcake with only one candle lol, yo gabba gabba, and such. What does he like the most?

We are doing a snoopy theme. Dh has always loved snoopy since he was a little boy..his mom did & she got him into it. His mom passed away before we met and we named DD after her...

I was at Target one day (last summer!! ) saw tons of snoopy stuff in the dollar spot and said "OMG, I'm going to do a Snoopy 1st birthday!" That's how I picked it.

Since it's April...what about a Baseball theme to tie in with opening day...that would be cute!

I agree cars, trains, or even airplanes...I will rally up some ideas for you as I go.

Jo on Etsy type in Race Car Birthday and tons of stuff comes up. Everything from Checkered Flag colored Cupcake holders, Invitations, and I am sure you and DH could get creative with some card board boxes for the kids to wear that you can paint and shape like cars....ohhhh I like parties. LOL

We did both fire trucks and 1st birthday at DS's party...the decorations for both of them matched perfectly...

All of DS's parties were based on his current interests.

1st birthday: Backyardigans
2nd birthday: still in love with the Backyardigans but I picked his favorite character of the show as the theme
3rd Birthday: Disney/Mickey. We had went to Disney 2 months before.
4rd birhday in several months (man I need to start planning AGAIN!!!): probably White post farm or anything to do with horseback riding. Not sure if we will do it in our yard again or at an outside place.

I didn't have a theme. I hung up a banner that I found that said Baby's First Birthday, made a cake myself and got candles that spelled her name.
