I need and want xanax and I mean it-UPDATE****WE WENT TO THE DOCTOR
ok..no kidding...as I type this I am sitting in the dark---wanting to cry but can't, completely fustrated.
These babies get these episodes that are similar to dd's colic---but noone would do that to me with twins would they??????? witching hour starts at 6.00 and can go unti 11.00 or 2.00 am. I have had them tagteam me since 6.00 tonight...played rainstorm music...rocked them---swaddled them---fed them-changed them-burped them and have given mylicon drops...I actually broke out in hives all over my face because I was starting to freak... oh..i forgot how I have to run my vacuum for hours on end and when it is stopped their eyes pop open! So.......last night I had it and took the worse of the two--(the other one was ok--but freaking because Maxc was freaking) and I went driving around at 10.30 last night... well...I got a flat...had to rideb on it-so then I got a blow-out...fun fun... again tonight..got them all ready and was like I had it...I'm going driving and the darn kid starts to fall asleep all bundled and in the carseat. So....thats exactly where they are sleeping tonight. I know it will pass---ha...my dd's episodes passed when she was 1!!! but if it was colic it would be every day at the same time...I think... and sometimes they go to bed with no problems at all. I tried routines..the diff between night and day and bathing...no overstimulation...no understimulation and fresh air.... What the farg am i doing wrong? I have 2 other kids and have to get up at 6.00 am... ha!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the crying started again---guess I am going out!
update: ok...it seems you can have "silent" reflux which is what the doctor thinks the problem might be. I fed them before I went to the doctor got to see Jake in his glory. He is a neonatologist also and is quite good. He really thinks this is the issue and put jake on Zantac and we are watching Max for a week,. If there is no improvement in 10 days we go to diff formula. it is the 24 carat gold formula he said. I went home and looked it up..,.,8 16 oz powder cans for 318.00!!!!!!!!!!!!! what if someone was not covered? omg. Anyhow...last night was terrible again--this time Max was especially bad with the agitation and whatever problem they have, and then Jake joined in.
bump for update

Have you seen the Happiest Baby on the Block DVD? (No way do you have time to read the book!) It has some great soothing suggestions to be done in combination that I hope would be helpful to you...

Instead of the vaccuum, we tuned a radio in my daughter's room to static, which was a godsend.
Hope things get better soon.

Re: I need and want xanax and I mean it
they BOTH are Colicky?? I know it will pass, but now you just want your sanity. Do you have a swing?? That is where Christopher slept for 4 months(when his Colic was gone). Have you tried that? They love the swinging motion. If they fall alseep in theri carseat, then that is where they will sleep. I know your pain, I HATED the evening hours, because I knew I was in for it.
The only thing that worked for us was the vaccum, and holding him in my arms...faced out holding his tummy.
You have FM

Re: I need and want xanax and I mean it
oh I am so sorry. I had bad sleepers too... we ended up putting a fan in their room for noise and they still use it at 2 1/2!!! I remember the time their pediatrician asked me if I was ok... said I looked exhausted. Well I was!! They would sleep in 20 min intervals!! All I can promise you is that it does get better. Also know that it isn't something that you are doing, some kids just aren't good sleepers. I would remind myself at night when they woke up...again... that they are healthy, and happy, and here! And if poor sleeping habits was the worst of it, than I guess I should feel fortunate. I give you so much credit for maintaining any sanity!! Its so hard to keep perspective when you are so tired. Is DH available to take shifts with you? Its amazing what a few straight hours of sleep can do for a mommy!! Hang in there, my heart goes out to you. Please let me know if there is anything I can do...even if just to vent!!!

Re: I need and want xanax and I mean it
OMG, I don't know how you are doing it! I had the same situation, but with only one, and I nearly lost my mind!
I tried everything, I really did, but the only really good advice I can give you is to tell you that it will pass, eventually. Try to hold onto your sanity in the meantime
Also, I'm pasting below some of my responses to other, siimilar, desparate posts. -----------------------------------------------
Hi there... my daughter had terrible colic, which I hate to admit, lasted for almost 6 months, and it was all mostly due to bad bad gas (that she inherited from daddy ). I found some posts I responded to on the topic, so I cut and paste them here. Also, try to get your hands on a copy of "the happiest baby on the block" - it talks about babies with colic and the 5 s's that help with it (they must be done ALL together or it doesn't work): swaddle, place him/her on his side, shush in his/her ear, rock/swing him/her and let him/her suck on your finger or a pacifier - here is the link:
Happiest Baby
And here are my other suggestions:
Alex had TERRIBLE gas issues in the beginning... I mean TERRIBLE (she got it from her daddy...LOL) . She was BF, not formula. I took her to the doctor so many times and there really just wasn't anything they could do for her. I thought about switching her to formula, but I thought the payoff of protecting her from illness with the Breastmilk was more important. There are some ways to handle it:
-Try to distract your baby. It's hard in the beginning because they aren't as interested in their surroundings, but try as best you can. Sometimes it's as simple as taking her into a different room or changing her surroundings.
-Lay her on her left side, and push her legs up into a fetal position and rock her body a little, or pat her back. It helps get the farts out
-Lay her on her back and pump her legs
-Put her in the superman hold (Alex LOVED this... she would immediately stop crying when DH did this for her). Put her body over your arm. Her head should be in your hand, her legs towards your elbow and she should face downwards so that her belly is resting on your forearm. The pressure alleviates the gas.
-Use a sling or the Baby Bjorn. FOr some reason, it really helps to keep a gassy baby close to your body, probably because it's comforting. On days it was REALLY bad, I would put Alex in the Baby Bjorn and walk on the treadmill on the lowest setting. It usually worked like a charm.
As she gets older and her digestive system matures, and she's more aware of her surroundings, it WILL get better. Unfortunately, this is just something most babies have to grow out of... ______________________________
Oh boy... well, all I can tell you is it WILL get better! Alex was the same way for the first 4-5 months, and I think it was mostly because of gas. She was terrible - would never nap and whenever she was awake she would fuss, strain and cry. I tried everything, and there really wasn't any miracle cure, but here are some things that may help:
1- Keep trying with the swing. The movement distracts baby from the gas pains. Alex didn't take to the swing at first, but after a few weeks it was the only place she would sleep and/or nap.
2 - baby carrier. Keep baby close to you. It helps comfort them when they are uncomfortable and helps with napping. In the beginning, the only way I could get Alex to sleep was to put her in her baby carrier and walk on the treadmill on the lowest setting.
3 - Use a bassinet. In the beginning Alex didn't nap well in the crib, I think because it was so big. We bought a small bassinet that had a vibrate option on it, and had white noise on it as well. I do remember times when I would put her in there and she would actually sleep
4 - Use Mylicon consistently. It won't work when you use it sporadically.
5 - If her gas is very bad, try to let her sleep on her side. On the left side - I read an article about how laying on your left side allows trapped gas bubbles to travel out. I would rock Alex on her side and push her legs up to a fetal position - it often helped.
6 - Pump her legs like a bicycle to get out the gas.
7 - do the superman hold. This was one of the only things that worked with Alex when she was super fussy. DH would hold her on his forearm. Her head face down in the palm of his hand, her butt towards his elbow, with her tummy laying flat against his forearm. The pressure against her tummy helped ease the gas discomfort. If he walked around the house with her in that position, she would often fall asleep.
8 - Stroller/car ride. Again, the movement helps baby become distracted from the discomfort.
That's all I can think of for now!! Good luck and it WILL get better!

Re: I need and want xanax and I mean it
Sorry you are having such a hard time! I know how colic can be with just one child....I can't imagine it with twins & having an older child.
You wrote about the vacuum cleaner. That was something that worked very well with my DD. Suggestion for you....my husband put the vacuum sound on tape and then burned it onto a CD. We have a 70 minute CD of the vacuum. If you want, I can have him burn you one and I'll get it to you. FM me if you are interested. It certainly beats burning out your vacuum b/c then what will you do?!

I'm so sorry you are going through this.
Did you pick up Secrets of the Baby Wisperer. Although, by how it sounds I don't think you would have time to read it

Re: I need and want xanax and I mean it
Jeannine, I'm so sorry...
My twin nephews used to do the same exact thing, they are 10 months now and have gotten alot better. Mylicon drops didn't work but Little Tummy's did. We would have to separate them in different rooms because when one cried, the other would start. Movement is key. They lived and slept in their swings for the first three or four months at least! Also, are you using Dr. Browns bottles? They really helped with the colic. Before them, Matthew, one of the boys, would have his legs scrunched all the way up to his belly in pain so they helped alot.
Hope that helps, you probably know it already but just hope you feel better.

Re: I need and want xanax and I mean it
I am so sorry you are going through this. I went through something very similar with my babies...once they turned 3 1/2 months, things got a lot better.
I know all of the "tricks" that people tell you...you listed most of them...unfortunatly for me, NONE of them worked. I was losing it...everytime someone dropped by, I would just look at them and start crying uncontrollably!
I don't have much advice for you, since it seems as if you have tried EVERYTHING. I can offer shoulder and an ear...if you need anything, feel free to FM me.
For now... to you!

Re: I need and want xanax and I mean it-UPDATE****WE WENT TO THE DOCTOR
Good luck! I hope the treatment works for them! I believe that's what my daughter had, but while my pediatrician said it was possible, he wasn't a big proponent of using medication and so we waited it out (miserably, I might add). There are a LOT of ladies on here whose babies suffered through silent reflux so you have such a wealth of information on here, and take heart that even if the meds don't work, eventually their little bodies grow and mature, and they move past the silent reflux.

Re: I need and want xanax and I mean it-UPDATE****WE WENT TO THE DOCTOR
DD had silent reflux and, after the Zantac didn't seem to make a difference after 1 1/2 weeks, we switched to Nutramigen. It took another 3 days on the Nutramigen/Zantac to see the difference. We stuck with both. She did better on the RTU formula rather than the pwd too. Expensive girl Hang in there.
