I need help for work-- come on in if you have a few mins..

I am trying to pull some research/anecdotal information as to what women spend time doing online. Also, how they feel about the internet-- how it has impacted their lives. etc.

The categories that I have identified are:
- Watch Video
- Email
- Visit/Participate in community sites
- IM
- Shopping
- Product Research
- Share content, i.e. personal photos, video, etc.
- Get the news

Please let me know if you go online to do anything else on a regular basis, and what sites you go to, to do the above, or anything else on your list.

Also, if you could let me know how you feel about the internet in your life, that would be great too.

I would say the internet is very important for me to keep up with things going on in the world. Just wish people did not try to send viruses or hack so much

For video watching I go to You tube

Email is yahoo

Community sites: LIF, LIW

IM is MSN, but rarely do I do this...I like text messaging better

Shopping: I actually refuse to shop online

Get news: you mean besides here? MSN.com or CNN.com

Share content: only here.

I also use the internet a lot to find recipes and diet/fitness information (Ie., weightwatchers.com / foodnetwork.com) as well as travel information (travelocity or orbitz).

I agree with all of the above, and I also use the web to do research for school. I'm writing my dissertation and I have barely set foot in a library because all of the books and articles I need are available online through either my school library sites or questia.com!

I spend about half my time at work on a web-based database system where we do everything from human resource functions to scheduling.

I don't have need for them, but what about dating sites! (maybe considered a community site, or maybe a shopping site--shopping for a mate?)

I do most of my work research online. Forexample: locating clients and contacts, prospecting, industry news etc. And almost everything everyone else said!

Personally, I would be LOST without the internet. There is a wealth of knowledge and infomation at my finger tips and I consider it such a luxury that I take for granted most of the time. I wouldn't be able to function for even 1 day without the internet..

Is this just regarding personal use? I use the internet a lot at work.
(Besides shopping!)

I guess it is considered research--let me know if you want more detail on that.


In additon to your categories, I'd add general information:

zip codes look up, directions, recipes, definitons, spelling, information on various topics that come up in conversation (usually from Wikipedia)
I guess before the internet this would all be considered reference.
