That's so tough!! There's no possibility of giving one of the other PT therapists the FT position and keeping you PT? Why would have to be your position specifically? Is it because they like you and want YOU for the FT spot?

That stinks!!! Could she have chosen you because you're so awesome? (trying to make a positive out of a negative here!)
I think it's probably the smart thing to stay there....you know the people, the school, the kids...the commute is good....and it would mean more money, right?

So sorry you are not able to stay where you are part-time...That was a really nice situaiton. (wish I could teach part time!) I know how stressful returning to work is .....hang in there.
I do understand the principals situation though....she needs to do what will best meet the needs of the school and she believes a FT provider will be beneficial. It is so strange to think of a school district as a business, but it is just that and they are looking at outcome results.
Try not to worry over it.

Re: I need my Parenting mommies support. Being forced to go full time next year....
I know how you feel. I got an email fro work last week saying that they are eliminating my PT position and that if I wanted to go back, it would have to be full time. I love working part time, but they made me an offer that I would be silly to turn down so I am going back. I talked them into letting me work PT from July - Labor Day and then after that I will be FT.
I am sad about it, but I am excited for the money and I know it's just temporary. I plan on saving a TON of money so I can quit either at the end of the year or in the spring.
Hang in there!!

Re: I need my Parenting mommies support. Being forced to go full time next year....
What really chaps me is that I DO want to eventually go full-time. Just not next school year when I have a NB.
Believe me, when DH saw the bump in pay, he became all for it.
My biggest concern is BFing. I was so successful at it with my girls even while working because I was home with them more than I was at work. I just HATED pumping at work. I share an office and even though my fellow therapists are good friends of mine at this point, I get so busy during the day, I worry I'll go too long between sessions and my supply won't hold up.
DH insists I should come homeduring lunch to BF DS since we live so close. It;s an idea, but I admit, I do ALOT of working lunches because I suck at keeping up with peperwork.
Again.... sorry for using you all as a soundingboard. I just need to write it all out I suppose.

Amy this is cruddy and I'm sorry You're so close to the end and had everything worked out, so this is like pulling the rug out from under you a little bit.
From your posts it sounds like staying there is probably the best answer right now; there's no doubt in my mind you'll get into the flow of the new schedule after a few weeks, but I know it's hard to think about less time at home with "twig"
And if it's a totally unmanageable situation, you do have options, don't forget! You are brilliant and skilled and I know if this is too much you will be scoping out the next opportunity.
With that said... a teeny commute is a joy to behold; the extra dough will likely come in handy and allow you to do things a PT salary might not... (just some lemonade there for this lemon-y situation).
ON the BF'ing I'm no help but I'm hoping that by October you've got a huge stash and that your daytime pump sessions can be minimal. If you really don't want to take the FT gig, then there's nothing wrong with opting for the PT offer; Sure it will be stressful changing schools, but only in the short term, I would think. But either way don't feel "trapped", you have 2 perfectly viable options to choose from, and even though they were not the original plan, sometimes these things play out for a reason we only find out later on.

Can you take your full maternity leave & return to the school?
I don't know about teacher's unions & your contracts but offering a job & rescinding the position because of a maternity leave is a huge no-no in the private sector.

The job is mine if I want it- but only if I'll go full-time. If I decide I want to stay part-time, I'll be placed in a different school.
I'll be honest, I don't even want to mess around with legalities as I don't want to make enemies.
