I need photographer advice with a problem I faced inservice
My family and I recently visited Hilton head, SC and trusted a photographer to capture our families memories.
The day after the session we viewed the photos and out of almost 200 photos at tops 10 we liked, and then we narrowed it down to 5.
I got the prints in the mail and out of the 5, 3 were of an acceptable quality. Sadly, the 2 blurry ones were the family shots. The "good" shots were of my girls; well I could have taken them for free with my SLR!
So, I contacted the company to resolve and their only resolution was to send the prints back to get a refund. I understand their business standpoint, however, what about their lack of professional delivery and my family now missing this memory, by now having quality prints?! With a 3 year old and a 9 month old, and I now live in NC, not close to the beach (like when we lived on LI )... I am DEVISTATED that we don't have this years family vacation memory, the way I dreamed of!
So I said, I can't really hang them, they are embarrassing that they are from a professional, at best an amature could do better! At least allow me to keep them, so I have something to remember, but refund me because that quality is not of professional standards.
what would you have done if it was your business? Am I wrong in what I'm asking?
My family & I get one trip a year....I am devastated that we don't have a great family portrait on the beach like we wanted

One other thing...the photographer said the reason the photos were blurry were because a slow shutter release was used because of the dim light (sunset).
Is that true? And if so, why use that when you have young kids and are taking a walking shot?
PLUS they started 15minutes LATE, so it's no wonder the light was low!

I'm sorry you had a bad experience. I just wanted to say that the excuse of a slow shutter speed above is absolutely unacceptable from a professional photographer. The image, if blurry should have never been shown in my opinion and a professional photographer knows to make sure their shutter speed is high enough to prevent blur.. Unfortunately it sounds to me that you had an inexperienced photographer do the session. I'm not sure if this is a company that hires out multiple photographers and unfortunately you got someone new? Did you see their portfolio a head of time? Was the work shown to you similar to what you received in terms or proofs? It does stink that you had a bad experience. I would contact management and speak to them!

It's a company where we were vacationing in Hilton Head, SC. I honestly think they just hire people and show them how to do some shots.
I went off of their website and booked prior to visiting on vacation.
Lesson learned
Their owner doesn't want to refund us unless we return the photos, but then we have nothing of the days memory.

Since you're not going to be displaying the pictures anyway, I would scan the photos. That way you'll always have a copy of them, and you can send the originals back to the photographer.
If you don't have access to a scanner, you can even take a picture of the photo. Not ideal quality, but you'll have the memory.
