I need some clarification on widwives TMI
My SIL works with a women who's sister had a water birth baby.
Ok- here is the very wired part:
She said that in order to avoid an episiotomy the midwife "played with her" and made her og**asm to loosen up her cervix and to contract it.
I have NEVER heard of such a thing. IMO, that is totally not in the description duties for a Dr.
First of all how the heck can you relax to even have a ****** is transition? Or was this done in the beginning? (early labor) I have to find out. This is totally wired and disgusting to me, I can't fathom it at all.
Has anyone ever heard of this?
The lady is NOT lying-this really happened. She didn't need an episiotomy and she had a really great birth.
eta: the disgusting part to me is the fact that the Dh didn't do it the midwife did.

Re: I need some clarification on widwives
Isn't there some new movie out about orgasmic birth? I saw a blurb about something like this on 20/20. Not sure if the birth in the water involved the midwife playing with her though.
I had a midwife and that wasn't in her job description for me. Also, I don't think your cervix has anything to do with whether you will need an epi, but more of whether or not your vaginal opening will stretch or tear.

Re: I need some clarification on widwives
She made her O, or she massaged her to allow her to stretch enough for baby to come out?

She doesn't mean an epidural, she means if they are going to "cut" her (an episiotomy)
But I agree, I think there is some type of new show or movie or documentary about this.
I can't imagine. I go to a midwife now (as my GYN) and she isn't that much different than my OB was

I'm guessing that taking her to ****** was not the goal. Massaging the area around your vagina can definitely help in avoiding a tear. It's just possible that the girl was very senstive and had an ****** because of it.

I have never ever heard of a midwife doing that before. I would ask for some clarification, because I bet she is mistaken in some way, or they had some werid a$$ midwife!
Midwives in some cases will manually stretch the last bit of cervix away so she'll be able to push, or massage the perineum to avoid an episiotomy, which most doctors do as well.

I know what she meant. I said epi so I didn't have to spell the entire word.

That could very much be the case.

I have never heard of that. that's really weird to me and I would be uncomfortable with that. did they talk about it beforehand? was that the plan she agreed to?
i've heard of massaging the perineum (with oil) to avoid episiotomy, but that's very different than being played with til "O". I didn't need an episiotomy, and nobody massaged or played with me. The doc stretched me a bit (like you stretch the opening of a balloon before you try to blow it up) but there was no way that would bring me to "O".

Re: I need some clarification on widwives TMI
So the husband was standing by while the midwife was making his wife O? What an awkward situation!

Re: I need some clarification on widwives TMI
I never heard about the O part but massaging the perineum sounds normal. My midwives suggested doing it and asked if I was okay with it. I tore a little but not much.
I am not sure if the O was the intent or just a benefit.

Re: I need some clarification on widwives TMI
there was recently a post about this, i thought on this forum, maybe not though..usually though, the dh and the dw are supposed to be kissing, and touching, and the dh can and should make the dw O..ugh, i get sick thinking of it happening during labor..but anyway, yes there was a huge thing on 20/20 about it..and it was posted somewhere on this site..supposedly, the birth is the most incredible experience.. ugh, i remember they were like making out while she was pushing, it was freakin horrendous..

Re: I need some clarification on widwives TMI
Sounds like she may have gotten her information wrong and took a Perennial Massage up perverted... Like others said massaging the area can help avoid an episiotomy. I never had to do anything like that but do use Midwives and am very happy with them.
