I need some ideas for pretending to "drink"

My friends have been on me like a hawk watching what I drink. I know that if I say I'm not drinking they'll know right away. I'm going out to a bar tonight for my BIL's birthday and I need a way to "drink" without actually drinking. I'm typically a wine drinker, but on occasion I'll have a beer. I'm definitely not a mixed drink person, so that won't work either.

I'm considering buying a beer and then dumping it in the bathroom and filling it with water.

Any ideas??

wow do people really care so much at what someone is or is not doing??

I guess you could do the beer sugestion you thought of..

Cranberry and seltzer with lime (ask the server to put it in a fancy glass instead of a regular pint glass)

plain seltzer with lime (again not in a regular pint glass)

Last weekend I went to see a friend's band at a bar and asked for a root beer -- it came in a bottle and my friends were teasing me because it looked like I was holding a regular alcoholic beer.

To the PP who asked if other people really care what you're drinking, I've found this to be VERY true. When I was only 10wks pregnant, DH and I were invited to his VP's summer house for a weekend -- it was so hard to hide my pregnancy when everyone kept hounding me about what I was drinking. The cranberry and seltzer drink (above) saved me!

Try some coke on the rocks.
I had that at my last party and everyone was looking at me like it was rum and coke!

ETA: Just get what you usually drink without the alcohol....if someone gets u a real drink then pretend to drink it. HTH

To the poster who asked if people really care what you drink - unfortunately, like I said my friends knew we were trying, so the minute I don't drink, they'll know. I want to try and hide it as long as possible.

I like the cranberry with seltzer and lime idea in the different glass. I guess I'll just have to figure it out at the bar!

This whole hiding the pregnancy thing is way harder than I thought!

try cranberry juice in a wine glass and pass it off as wine...especially if it is a darker bar I would think you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.

honestly as much as you try to hide it your friends will still know. They may not say anything but they will know. It happened to us. No one said anything at the time but once we came out they were like yeah we knew cause of the drinks.

Thanks for all the ideas ladies! Since I know my friends, I opted for the bottled beer and dumping it. I fake sipped it for a while and then I went to the bathroom and dumped it. I went to the bar alone and asked the bartender to refill the bottle with water. She looked at me funny and I told her I'm pregnant and didn't want my friends to know yet. She was very sweet and even rinsed the bottle! She was more concerned that I had actually drank the beer in it before I gave it to her, but I told her I had dumped it. I had two "beers" and then stopped "drinking". None of my friends caught on and it worked like a charm! Now just the bartender at Croxley's knows though!

tell them you are on meds... and can't drink. Or the beer bottle filled with water works. Or have Dh sip it occasionally when nobody is looking. Good Luck!

I usually drink beer or vodka club and cranberry, so it was easy to drop the vodka. I just had to get to the bar first to talk to the bar tender.
