We just went to the Fig & Olive in the meatpacking district. Interesting...they had lots of tasting plates and stuff and it wasnt' very expensive.
Do you have a particular area that you'd like to stay in?

Here's the website
Fig & Olive
It's got the menu on it as well.
I really love Citrus on the Upper West Side as well, although I haven't been there in a while: 320 Amsterdam Ave At 75th St. I know a bunch of girls on here would second that one.
I think the Serafina on the upper east is the one with the terrace, I think that's the nicest - http://www.serafinarestaurant.com/
I'm blanking a little, but there are a ton that I would recommend

Vita on restaurant row.

I used a restaurant.com gift certificate when I went there. Very good food.

I'm sorry robynfs...but I just had to say that I hated this place! I've been there twice and both times it was so cramped, crowded and loud...last time my seat was so "in the aisle" that every time someone walked by the bumped my back! Even the waiters! The food was was good, but no better than like H2O. Definitely not romantic either!

Becco on 46th/9th. They have a very reasonable menu and the food is fab!
They also have a $25 wine list that is excellent.

Take a walk down restaurant row and you will find so many great places to eat-46th Becco is really good if you like French, there is a great French place over there- la rivage
la rivista is good
Da Rosina- we have been there a few times- great italian food- not $$$

I always recommend Flor de Sol in Tribeca. Very romantic and such a nice place. It is a tapas place.

Well, Blue Water Grill is very touristy imo...so that was bound to happen to you. I would go there with a group of people...not really an intimate date spot.
