I need to vent about food shopping today.
I rarely vent but I got so annoyed today and it is still bothering me.
It is very difficult for me to go food shopping because for some reason no stores except for Costco or BJ's have double shopping cars. I had to pick up a prescription at Target and was going to go to BJ's but DS has a little bit of a cold and was getting cranky, so I decided to pick up some stuff at Stop and Shop across the street from Target instead.
After searching the parking lot, I finally found a crappy double cart (the kind with the stupid race car in front.) Of course both the straps were broken so I had to hold DC in from throwing themselves over the side while I tried to manuever the race car around the store. Finally I get to the checkout. DD is literally trying to climb out of the cart onto the checkout counter next to us. I have to hold her in, and bag all the groceries myself. The freakin cashier just stood there and watched me struggle to do everything. She didn't even place one thing into a bag. I couldn't believe it. Isn't it part of their job to help bag? Or even if it isn't, couldn't she see I was having a hard time and help out? I was so flustered I didn't even give my card to her and probably spent more money than I would have. Ugh. I am never going back there. I'm sticking to Trader Joe's. They may not have the double carts but they are always super helpful.
Sorry if you got this far, but thanks for "listening" to my vent!

Re: I need to vent about food shopping today.
Have you thought or wearing one and pushing the other in the cart?
Alexa has become such a gymnast in the grocery store cart that I've resorted to back carrying her in my angel pack.....

Re: I need to vent about food shopping today.
The fact that more stores don't have double carts is just plain ridiculous !
Have you considered Pea Pod ? I know its not the same as regular food shopping, but every once in a while for the staples, it might save you the aggravation...Ugh !

The Waldbaums in Stony Brook is so much more empty, and the workers so much nicer! I almost went to that Stop and Shop today but went to Waldbaums, strolled right up to a cashier who also bagged everything for me!

Re: I need to vent about food shopping today.
I usually do one in the Ergo and one in the cart at Trader Joe's because that is where I usually go. I think I'll have to do that everywhere from now on!
I don't do peapod because the delivery fee is ridiculous!

They charge us $5.95 for delivery but I hardly ever pay the delivery fee because they are always e-mailing and mailing me certificates for free deliveries

Re: I need to vent about food shopping today.
Was it in Levittown? Thats the s&S we go to and I hate how the straps are all broken! the racecars are all beat up too.
I think some cashiers just don't get that small kids = ticking time bomb and you need to move fast before a meltdown occurs.
I've gotten very rude cashiers, but also some nice ones there.
oh, and BJs carts stink too!

Re: I need to vent about food shopping today.
I don't bag groceries unless I use self checkout. Yes, I'm the annoying person on line waiting for the cashier to do it. IMHO, I do not work for the supermarket and I am not paid to bag groceries. I would have said something, and it would not have been nice. But if you're talking about the Stop & Shop in E. Setauket, I've never had that problem there, and I'm sorry you got a lousy cashier.

How annoying-she should have bagged for you, it's her job AND it's the right thing to do.

Re: I need to vent about food shopping today.
OMG Mady somehow managed to flip herself out of the straps on the infant to toddler rocker the other day. And now she started climbing and standing on it!
This was the S&S in E. Setauket for all those wondering!

I thought that's the one you were referring to based on where you live. Honestly, I've never had that problem there - and I shop there aLOT.

Re: I need to vent about food shopping today.
I'm sorry you had to deal with that I would be really frustrated as well.
When DS still fit in the carts with the infant seats, there was only one local store that had the infant shopping carts. I was happy they had them but every week I'd go shopping and I'd have to pull out 4 wheel chairs and 4 toddler race car carts to get to the infant carts - all while holding my son. I sent a comment card into the store asking if they could rearrange the carts - I thought it was a loooong shot because there really wasn't any extra room. The next day got an email from the corporate office thanking me for my comment and that they would address the situation. The next week I went shopping the entire cart area had been changed around and the infant carts, as well as the wheelchairs and toddler carts were all readily available.
Maybe try writing a note, asking to address the broken carts, add double carts and above all address the helpfulness of the staff! I bet something will be done. I really cannot believe that cashier, that would have bothered me the most - every time I have gone shopping with DS I have been asked if I want help to my car, I can't believe they didn't even bag for you!

Re: I need to vent about food shopping today.
This is why I LOVE my Kolcraft tandem Options Stroller. The basket is HUGE-OK not huge enough to do a Costco trip but big enough for a small trip. Alternatively I push their jogger(which steers awesome) in front of me and drag the cart behind me. Have you tried that?

That is what I do! When they were little, I used to put both infant carriers in one cart and push that and drag the other! It is crazy!

If I use my jogger, I can't fit the groceries in trunk of the car. My Maclaren is my every day stroller, and while I love it, it is not well suited to the push-pull because of the handles. Thanks so much for the advice. How big is that Kolcraft stroller when it is folded up? I have a big trunk, but not that big!

Re: I need to vent about food shopping today.
UGH how annoying! I would have asked to see his/her manager. That's just ridiculous. I have no problem helping bag - HELPING. Nobody comes over at my job and starts doing my tasks. The best is when they take one item at a time at a snails pace while you are still unloading your cart so that the cashier doesn't have to bag. Sorry for the tangent - I just get so annoyed. I use PeaPod now because the $5 is worth me not getting aggrevated!

Its Long but not wide. It also folds pretty flat...let me see if I can find a pic. BTW I bought mine for $60 on CL. You have to remove the front seat to fold but it is easy

Re: I need to vent about food shopping today.
Honestly since #2 was born, I usually send DH out or wait until he can watch at least one of them and go myself (or if the babysitter is here, I'll do it during the day around my work schedule). It's so stressful, I don't want the kids to see me that stressed. I can't wear the baby anymore and haven't been able to for a while. While Bjorn's weight limit may be in the 20's, my back's limit is quite less. I feel your pain. I agree with Pea Pod as someone else mentioned, although last I used them was a bad experience with meat, but they did take it back which was good. You are not alone in the struggles of trying to take out 2 LO's.

ITA Peapod is great and out of the 25 or so times I've ordered I've only paid the $6 delivery fee 3 or 4 times that I googled or looked through my email for a coupon but couldn't find one. IMHO $6 is reasonable anyway and the fact that you can so easily see all the sale items listed means that I get more on sale than I would have in the store- so there's a lot of savings from that as well. The only qualms I have with Peapod is the produce can be a little undesirable b/c the shopper obviously doesnt care to pick out the best pieces and also once or twice my ice cream came a little melty.
