I offically win the Bad Mommy Award this week
DS and I were playing in the basement and stupidy ran upstairs to put something away. Kevin started up the stairs after me (I didn't think he even knew how to climb stairs) and before I could reach him he fell down the last two steps onto the carpeting.
I took him to the dr. becasue he was limping and it looks like he has a sprain in one ankle and some muscle strain in his hips.
I am such a A**!
The stairs aren't gated because we haven't found a gate that will fit right in the doorway. I'm going to have to find something or have a carpenter build a custom gate for that doorway.

Thank God it was only the last 2 steps! These things happen - we have steps in our home too - I'm already thinking about how we need to put those gates up when he starts crawling!!!!

Don't worry, we all have our bad mommy moments. I know I have.
What are your stairs like? Maybe we can recommend something.

When you walk down the stairs the right side of the wall ends before the left side does. The left side used to be open with a railing but we closed it up when we redid the basement.
The gate would have to be able to be installed on an sharp angle.

Try the Configure Gate - you can pretty much configure it to whatever you need. It worked for our stairs - I can show you a pic when I get home.

Re: I offically win the Bad Mommy Award this week
When my daughter was 9 months, she has climbed up one step, and as I was going to pick her up, she turned and fell down that one step. She landed on her leg. Whenever she put any pressure on it she cried, so we took her to the ER, turns out she broke her leg and was in a cast for 6 weeks. I couldn't believe it!

We have the configure gate on one set of our stairs and then we have the Summer Custom Fit Gate, they both work great for oddly shaped stair areas. Hope your son feels better!

I'm glad he's ok. You're not a bad mommy. I don't think there is one parent that can say they have underestimated their child's development & had a similar scare.
Signed, The mom who didn't realize her baby could roll yet (right off the bed)
The mom who never thought she's find her 3 year old wedging a broom into the cabinet under the sink to try to break the locks open because he "can never get that cabinet open & wants to see what's in there."

Christopher fell down the entire flight of stairs at our old apartment. I felt like the biggest a-hole on the planet and I cried more than he did. I still thank god to this day that he didn't have a single scratch on him. I'm glad your son is doing okay
