I Officially Get the BAD MOMMY award.....
My DS has been battling an ear infection for almost a month now. He just got prescribed Augmentin (second antibiotic in the past month) on Tuesday last week. This morning as I'm straightening up around the house I happen to read the pamphlet that came with the antibiotic. SURPRISE!!!! The medicine is supposed to be kept in the fridge.......... Now he's pulling on his ear again and we're probably back at square one!!!! Please tell me that I am not the only one to do something this silly.... I'm so sad at work thinking that his ear hurts again and it's all my fault...... How could I be so dumb???? It's going to be one of those pity party type days...........

No you don't get the bad mommy award for that. His infection continuing probably has nothing to do with leaving the med out of the fridge - he's probably just resistant to that particular antibiotic. Don't be so hard on yourself!

You certainly are not a bad Mommy, that's an easy oversight. The pharmacist/cashier should have reminded you to do so actually.

Re: I Officially Get the BAD MOMMY award.....
Thank you both! I called the pharmacy and they said that the antibiotic has probably not been effective since it was left out of the fridge. He has poopie issues and diaper rash now from the antibiotics and I have just increased the length of time that he has to be on them. I just feel awful but really appreciate you guys making me feel a little better.... At least I learned a very important lesson. READ the pamphlet that comes with the medicine....

When you picked up the medication, they should have told you it needed to be refridgerated AND there should've been a label on the bottle that said that. Did you happen to notice if they took it out of the fridge when they you filled the Rx?
I find it strange that they didn't tell you anything...
Well, now you know for next time... but I still think they should have said something.
Hope he feels better VERY soon!

No, they didn't take it out of a fridge there. They were just mixing it when I came to pick it up. I did see it on the bottle on the instructions on how to mix the antibiotic suspension....whatever that means. But only this morning AFTER I saw it in the pamphlet and looked at the bottle to see if I missed it.
