I really need to vent about my "friends".
It's really annoying the way they treat JT and me since we had Ava. We are probably the two most mobile, active people with a newborn. We get out everyday and try to go out every weekend. Sometimes we bring the baby and sometimes we have someone watch. Nevertheless, we always try to make time to go out. Tonight we had plans to go to the movies, so I got a babysitter. Well, my friend calls me and asks what we were doing. I told her we were going to the movies and what movie we were seeing, her and hubby saw it already. She really wanted to hang out, and JT and I wanted to see them, so I invited them over for dinner instead of us going to the movies. So I called my babysitter, told her we weren't going out and we rescheduled our movie night for during the week. Great. Wonderful. Well, JT and I go to the supermarket and I get everything we need for dinner. I planned a whole nice dinner and what not and was looking forward to having company. We get home and there's a message on the machine from our friend saying, "Well, DH really wanted to go to the movies tonight, so we're going to do that instead. If you want to come, you can." What the hell is THAT all about? I'm so mad. It really sucks when you start to realize you don't have as many friends as you thought you did.

How rude!! You don't cancel on someone at the last minute like that no matter when the plans were made.
I'm sorry...I hope they all catch up to your new stage & you can listen to them lament about never going out.

Re: I really need to vent about my "friends".
DH and I have "friends" who do the same thing. The latest excuse we got from them was "we can't go to _____ because so and so didn't get his hair cut". Give me a friggin break.

I would let them know that it isn't that easy anymore to up and change plans on short notice since you have a baby to arrange care for.

OMG! I would be fuming!!!!!!!! I would leave her a message back "thanking" her for backing out and I would proceed to tell her that you cancelled your babysitter and shopped for THEIR dinner

Re: I really need to vent about my "friends".
I would be mad because you went to a lot of truoble to prepare for them coming over. I think that people without children really don't get it sometimes how difficult it can be to get a babysitter and how big a deal it is for you to give up the babystiter for the night. Myabe if they understood that better they wouldn't be so inconsiderate.
I don't have children, and I end up babysitting nieces and nephews a LOT since I know my siblings have a hard time finding someone to watch the kids even when they are willing to pay.

That's just wrong. I would never be able to do that to someone. Plans are plans.

Re: I really need to vent about my "friends".
I'd make them aware that you cancelled your babysitter and went shopping to make them dinner-some "friends" you'd be better off without them

Re: I really need to vent about my "friends".
Do our friends know one another?!
It's immaturity. Most people are so self absorbed and selfish they don't even realize they ruined your night and/or hurt your feelings.
I'm sorry! Can I come over?! Just kidding....hope you guys enjoyed a nice night, anyway!

Re: I really need to vent about my "friends".
KIds or no kids, that is really rude! I would let her know the trouble you went through - maybe she didn't realize you were actually preparing dinner? (I just cannot imagine someone doing that if they realized the situation - or maybe some people *are* that obliviously rude?!).

Re: I really need to vent about my "friends".
Rachel...I know exactly what you mean....DH and I are going through the same thing.
You try to make yourself available and be there for people even though you have a newborn....and sometimes your "friends" just don't get it.
(Ex)...a girl I knew for a long time and lived with for two years right before I got married...basically put together her bachelorette party just last year has not even had the "time" to come over and meet Kerri.
You really learn who your friends are.

Argh!! I would be SO mad!! How rude of them...first of all as if getting a babysitter is some small feat and then you buy all this stuff for dinner. Wow...I'd rip them a new one.
You should DEFINITELY say something.

Re: I really need to vent about my "friends".
Some people just dont "get it". Our friends think we cant do things because of dd and so dont include us but tell us what they did after the fact and then we explain that we coudl have brought dd or had my mom watch her as long as they give us notice. They say oh, ok., next time. And next time, it is the same sh*t!

Trust me Rach- I hear ya....
I went through this very same thing... and truthfully now that time has past- Im actually glad these people are out of our lives...
Read my "reason" blog on myspace..... a big part of that has to do with the disappearance of friends....
