I think DS has fifth disease , what should I do?

DS is almost 5 mo . Heis teething and drooling + cold air outside so his cheeks have been rosy for a few weeks now. But the past 2 days or so they got totally red, and I think it was bothering him last night. I looked up red cheeks and one of the things causing it is fifth disease. It starts with cold like symptoms, sometimes fever , very red cheeks and spreads to chest area, I just noticed that he has rash on his chest too now and some on his tummy. He did also have cold like symptoms starting last week , but no fever.
I called my ped's office, the ped has a family emergency so he is not in, another dr will call me later I was told. I wanted to go in anyway but the girl at the office whom I know well said that the office is filled with really sick kids, with fever and stomach bug. So she said don't come in unless the ped says it's ok. So I have to wait for a call back around 4 pm or so.

Just wondering if I should even take him since he seems fine, no fever, not cranky, eating well , sleeping well. I read it's viral so there is nothing they can do anyway, just give Tylenol if there is fever .

If you have experience with this what would you recommend? I really don't want him to get something even worse , like a flu or something, he was so sick with a flu few weeks ago...

My son had this, it really wasn't a problem. After the mild fever was gone, it was just the rash which slowly disappeared!

I agree...don't take him to a crowded office right now if he's doing ok!
