According to mr Dr. Novocain is OK, as is dental work, but she told me if I were nervous to wait until 2nd tri.

I called but his office is closed until Monday. I will see what both he and my OB say.
They are both really handsome, isn't that funny?? How lucky am I?? Not that it matters....but I usually don't mind seeing either of them, lol!

Interesting post.
I went to the Dentist last week because one of my wisdom tooth flared up and they found a cavity.
She told me they would really like to hold off until the 2nd trimester.
PA also told me the same thing.

I know that something happens to the pH of saliva when PG & especially the gums or already affected areas can become enflamed. I was actually supposed to get a RTC next week, which I of course cancelled for now, but I am rinsing with Peroxide mixed with my regular mouthwash. it definitely helped with the gum irritation.

Re: I think I have a cavity . . .
I lost a filling two weeks into my pregnancy. Since I'd just had a ton of work done myself (ah, the memories! ) I didn't do anything about it. When I went a few weeks later for a routine cleaning, I showed the hygenist, and she said that if it bothered me that we could take care of it, but I decided to wait till after the baby comes. But I didn't have any pain- that is what would have made me deal with it.
I'd think they'd want to take care of it now because you don't want infection in there.
ETA: a co-worker told me that dental problems were common in pregnancy- our teeth get weaker because the baby gets most of the calcium. Don't know if that's true but it makes sense.

Yes I read that - I am taking calcium supplements and floss religiously now. And I got a lot of work done before I did the IVF just for this reason. I am so pizzed...

I am not sure if it is a loss of calcium, but I know it is a rise in acidity & your mouth becomes a hostile environment. Either way, dental issues are common during PG.
