I think I'm feeding my newborn wrong (formula)...
At the hospital she would wolf down the nursettes and by the time we left the hosp on Sunday she was drinking about 2-3 oz in one sitting no prob and then conk out for 3-4 hours or so. (She will be a week old tomorrow).
Now that we are home sometimes she'll only take an ounce at a time and if I'm lucky she'll take 3 oz but it takes an hour to get it all down. And she's eating more like every 2 hours, 3 if I am lucky.
Is this normal? How can I get her to eat more in a sitting at one time so she'll sleep longer in between?
Thanks!!

Did you try to switch back to the nursettes to see if she did like she did in the hospital or if she eats like at home?
C3 was never a big eater, but I do know that he was only at 2oz for a looooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnng time

If she's not throwing up and gassy with every bottle then I wouldn't change the formula. It's totally normal to change eating habits and it'll change a million more times... growth spurts, teething, gassy, etc... all effects they're eating. That young and it's so sporadic too.
Keep working on it and it'll get better.

Her belly may be too small to handle large amounts. Small frequent feeds may be the thing she needs. I know that s*cks.

I just ordered some of the nursettes, so they should be here tomorrow. If she does ok with them, maybe she just doesn't like the bottles I have
Thanks!

Re: I think I'm feeding my newborn wrong (formula)...
IMO it sounds like now she is eating what she 'should' be. a baby who is a few days old eating 2-3 oz is a lot from what i've heard/learned. my DD who is 3.5wks eats about 2-3oz now.
also, it's hard to put a time on babies eating... if your DD is hungry, feed her. i am EBF and there are times when i am feeding her every 45mins. she will level herself off i'm sure.
i could be wrong but that's what i would do.
congrats and HTH!

I agree with the PP... babys do change their eating habits all the tiem. My DS was only eating 1oz at the hosptial. When he came home, he bearly ate the 1oz. Finally after a week, he started inhaling 2oz. Now, at 12 weeks old he eats 7oz every 2 hours...he's a little piggy with his Daddy's metabolism LOL.

DD was the same wat when we came home. WE just switched her to soy formula and that seems to help her a little.
DD is a slow eater too, I don't think there is much we can do to change that.

Uggh...sounds like she switched her feeding times. Derek ate every 2 - 3 hours round the clock for a few weeks. I slowly was able to stretch it out.

I would def. try switching the bottles or nipples. Maybe the flow is too slow/fast as compared to the ones she was getting in the hospital.

I agree. Nate only liked the latex not the silicone for some reason (not sure what you're using). I'd try a different bottle too.
