Thank you for sharing your story! It made me cry but also reminds us that miracles happened on that day despite all the tragedy!

I think if your son will not get scared, then i would definitely tell him. IMO, it's important for him to learn how closely his family, and all of NY for that matter, was affected by the events of that day. Your personal story is way better than anything he could learn at school, see in a movie or on tv. I think it's ok if you all cry! But I would try to end on a happy thought about how your family now lives happily ever after!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I remember your story. And I think about around the anniversary.
I don't even need to read it, it makes me cry just thinking about it.

I don't know your son, but is this letter something you can share with him and than let him lead the way with questions?

I don't even know if that's a good idea, just a suggestion.

Chat Icon I still cry every time i read this.

You know what I never thought about? Those teachers out there right now that have classrooms full of babies that were in utero for 9/11, like your son. Must be so surreal to "teach" it as a history event.

Immediate tears with your well written story.

You provide such important reasons to share your story with your son, so emotional and real.

That is beautiful!!!!! I teared up reading it also.

For those of u wanting ur kids to know about 9/11 & not knowing how to do it, Linda Ellerbee just made a documentary/news report that aired on Nickelodeon. The whole show that aired was an hour, but there's a clip on the website that summarizes it all without too graphic of images.... The clip is 22 min long... I just showed it to my 6th graders today & it seemed to answer a lot of their questions in the most "non-scary" way possible. Here's the link for those of u interested.......

Thank you so much for sharing your story. I was just going to post about this Nickelodean special. It was on the other night. My son is only 5 but I watched it with him. He wasn't scared. He just had a lot of questions. I'm glad we watched it together because they have been talking about it in school.

Definatley take a look at this Nickelodean special. This is actually the whole show. It was less than 30 minutes on TV too.

Unfortunately too many people I know don't have a happy ending to that day and 10 years later there still are no happy endings but I am glad yours was a happy one.

No matter how many times I read this it reduces me to tears

I have no advice on how to tell your son but I think he will probbly take it better than you think. Chat Icon I think you are right, you and your DH weren't ready. Your story is written so perfectly, I think once your son reads/hears it he will understand that day (not to mention the love you and your husband have for your family) Chat Icon
