I think my basement is haunted and the ghost likes to do laundry!
Our laundry room is down in the basement. Quite a few times over the past several weeks, I've gone down to get a load out of the dryer and have come down to find the door to the dryer wide open and clothing scattered about in front of the dryer.   Additionally, we use the "automatic dry" setting and when this happens, the dial goes to "optimum dry".  It's just DH, DS and I in the house - this happens even when DH is out of town and I'm pretty sure James isn't going down to the basement to check the laundry on his own. 
Any idea what could be going on here?

You aren't washing sneakers or anything like that are you? I know the door would always open whenever I washed our sneakers.
If not...than I have no idea.
But I would be locking that basement door and taking my wash to the laundromat!

hahah that is funny at least, yea the only explanation would be uneven load and/or sneakers otherwise you have a friendly helper.

Is your dryer level ?
If not, the tumbling may cause the door to open and the laundry to spill out.
I'll take the helper laundry ghost !
