I want to have a Gender Reveal "Party" - Need some help!!
So I've decided to do a Gender Reveal “Party”, but not a full on party per say. I plan on having the sono tech write the gender down and put it in a sealed envelope and have a cake made with appropriate filling color or cake color. The things is, I don’t plan on having a full on party- I just planned to have people (family & a few close friends) over for cake. I also don’t want to set myself up for disappointment – after watching other peoples videos and looking at photos where people are super excited.
We’re looking at about max 16 people (including DH, DS and myself) so there won’t be invitations and such. Also, we’re hoping to find out at the next sono (5/16) and I’m trying to figure out when to have the cake. DS’ bday party is that Sunday (5/20) – and all (but 1) of the people will be there, but I don’t want the other guests to feel awkward. However, FIL and SIL (and family) live in Queens and BIL (and family) live in Nassau – I’d feel bad having them come to our house 2 days in a row, you know. Any suggestions??
Do you think it’s silly to make my own decorations??
Any suggestions on a bakery?? The only one I have used an like is Dortoni (in Levittown), but we live in Lake Grove.
Thanks!!

I had a gender reveal party we had about 20 people ~ I served some munchies and had a hero etc. We had everyone dress in either pink or blue to see what team they were on. It was sooo much FUN! I was planning on using Kris Cakes for my cake but she got sick and I used Benkert's Bakery as a last minute and they did a great job. They were so cute even when my mil picked up the cake and my mil asked for the envelope back but they were afraid she would peek so they double enveloped it and taped it. Image Attachment(s):

That's cute (about the double envelope)!! That bakery isn't too far from my house - Can I ask, how much was the cake (FM if you prefer)?

my cousin had a gender reveal party, it was cute! if you think people will mind coming 2 days in a row, maybe have the cake after you cut the cake for DS' birthday?

I was thinking about that - but my aunt won't be at the party (my only local family - aside from my brother). It's nuts! Then my MIL leaves the next day to goto Argentina for a month - originally we figured we'd find out around Memorial Day and have a cake that weekend - but that won't work. We'll figure that part out, somehow . . .

Are you going to know?? I think you should be surprised as well. Have the sono tech put it in an envelope and let the bakery open it!

Re: I want to have a Gender Reveal "Party" - Need some help!!
My friend did a party just like that in December and it was sooooooo much fun!!! Make everyone wear either red/pink or blue so they "lock in" their guess! I think that was my favorite part (besides biting into the cupcakes to find out the gender!! Cupcakes was a great way to do it, too, since everyone gets their "own" reveal.
If your MIL thinks it's stupid, she can not come.

This cake from Benkert's was about $30 (might have been like $33) I have there cakes before and were ok this one was very yummy ~ I tried whipped cream this time (just needs to be refrigerated)
PS me and my hubby didn't know until we opened the cake with everyone at the party. So much FUN!

Sounds like fun! Benkherts or Rolling Pin are great bakeries. And I would wait a while, I personally wouldn't do it at my DC's b-day party. What about waiting til June?
