I was mean teacher today...
I know...harsh, but it's ridiculous how little respect for the rules there is. It's like a school wide epidemic.

Re: I was mean teacher today...
ok, I have to ask...I know that you got your frustration out by tearing up the sign, but...what was THEIR punishment? Your punishment is, you probably spent a good amount of time on that sign, and now you'll have to do it again!
Trust me, I've ripped things up before...but it's usually something that would involve a consequence for THEM. For instance, the other day, I caught one of my fifth graders doing his homework in my room the morning it was due. He was almost done, but when I caught him--I calmly went over to his desk, ripped up his paper, gave him a new one, and politely informed him that because he seemed to have forgotten that homework needs to be done at home, he can now have the opportunity do that tonight.

Re: I was mean teacher today...
I thought about it before I did it and their punishment is that tomorrow, they will make their own personal rules charts and they will be taped to their desks and there will be no excuses. And I was calm as a cucumber. It wasn't like I freaked out...I just walked over and decided this chart wasn't working anymore, so it's coming down.
The thing is that it's not me getting frustrated. There are about 10 kids who are getting annoyed. They are constantly shooshing people, telling people the rules, obeying the rules and then there are 16 who think everything is a joke. Seriously, biting a classmate? Are we for real?
So tomorrow, there will be no reasons why the rules won't be followed.

Re: I was mean teacher today...
Sometimes it just seeing one child getting punished that turns a class around. As a dance teacher, I need to start putting my foot down. Need to introduce the time out/naughty chair.

Okay, so we did this today. they were soo good at making lists and choosing rules that applied to them, but did they follow their personal rules?

Re: I was mean teacher today...
My guess is big fat no...it's the same as our discussion about solving their own problems..although I did get one taker.."I solved my own problem!!" I was so happy, I asked to hear about it..is that contraindicative?! HAHA
