I was soo ****** last night!!

I went to a Patchogue Community Meeting that Councilman Tim Mazzei was having at Meditteranean Manor last night. I went with a neighbor who has been volunteering with me on the weekends to clean up the overpass of Rte 112 and Sunrise Highway (litter central). We figured it would give us a chance to really see our politicians in action and show us how much difference they are making in our community. Well, what I DID see is how completely ineffective our local government is!

The focus of the meeting was the revitalization of the East Patchogue Corridor between Rte 112 and CR 101. After they had an opportunity to display their presentation of a lackluster powerpoint presentation, outdated statistics and displays that were reminiscent of an elementary school science fair, you could see the tension grow within the crowd. Things got VERY heated, as residents very strongly voiced their opinion on the issue at hand as well as various other issues within the community. One guy got up and wanted answers on an issue he was having with a slum lord residence next door to him, where 35 men were occupying a two bedroom home and had started utilizing the back yard as a toliet facility. Not only did he not get a response that was satisfactory, he was told by one of the meetings coordinators to sit down. Every question, every issue that was presented to him, his blanket statement was "email my office and I will look into it". Then he contridicted himself all over the place; first telling everyone he was going to stay til midnight if necessary to address everyone's concern and then ending the meeting promptly at 9:00. He actually suggested that maybe it would be a good idea to organize another meeting sometime soon, to address these other issues Gheez, you've been in office for TWO years and now less than a month before election day, you want to give your constituents a chance to be heard?? If anything, last night was a big eye opener for me. I was actually going to vote for this man based on word of mouth of good deeds done, his personable presence and his active campaign in the 5th district.

I just wonder what qualifies someone to run?? Maybe I should??

It sounds to me like you should -- you are intelligent, informed, concerned and pro-active. I would vote for you just from reading what you wrote!!

(But I am not in that district....sorry).

It is amazing how utterly incompetent some of the "politicians" are. And we vote for them!
