I was thrown off today when....
my principal told me the person whose leave I am covering is coming back...on monday! Thanks for the notice after I did all this work. I signed a contract until June so she's putting me on as a permanent sub. This s*cks.

Wow that sticks. I just came back from Maternity leave on Tuesday and they wouldn't give me back my classes because they didn't want to disrupt the students again with only a month left.

That stinks! I am surprised they allowed her to come back since you already signed a contract. . . .
At least you still have a job though for the rest of the year. I am sorry this happened though... I know how excited you were for this and all the work you put in!

that stinks!!! years ago, I had a LR position at Garden City, and the teacher came back at the very last minute as well. What a crappy feeling!!!

Thanks ladies, I am happy to still have a job. I got my hopes us cause they said they weren't going to bring her back in this position because she wasn't that great (shes untenured), and I think maybe she heard that and decided to come back early..oh well!

When did she say she would be out until? What date?
Technically she can't come back before the date. For example if she said she is coming back 6/15 she can't come back before.
Also, they should have only hired you until that date that she said, ie: 6/15.

The district shouldn't allow her to come back. a teacher can't come back before she said she would from a leave. That is not right. Sorry you are effected by this.

they can under special circumstances. financial hardship, medical reasons in the family, etc. also, some districts allow you to change your leave while on it (extend or come back early).
to the OP: i'm sorry about you losing your job, i truly am. but you will appreciate them holding your job when it's your turn to go out and then come back. it's terrible now, but it's great peace of mind and security when you're the one who has to come back to work after a leave. best of luck to you with everything!
