I was told last night that my cervix keeps shortening...
i am 12 weeks pregnant. my cervix was measuring at 5 in the beginning of my pregnancy and now i am at a 2.8, this happened over a few weeks. going back to the doc in 2 weeks for another measurement and will most likely need to get stitched up, cervical cerclage. i was reading up about this, how you can miscary cuz of the "short cervix" and some other info.
who has been stitched up? were you put on bedrest after? how many weeks were you when this happened. what i don't understand is if this completely stops you from going into labor or do they do this to "try" and stop it

Re: I was told last night that my cervix keeps shortening...
The doctor noticed my cervix shortened when i was 32 wks so it was too late for stitching. I am now on strict bed rest bc he said the pressure from my baby sitting on my cervix could possibly open it and put me in early labor. As long as I stay off my feet, I shouldnt have a problem

Re: I was told last night that my cervix keeps shortening...
I am pg with twins and I was measuring over 4cm at 20 weeks at by 26 weeks I was measuring 1.2cm, I had a late term emergency cerclage put in and since then I have measured around 3.8 cm and I have been out of work but not on "strict" bed rest, just taking it very very easy on the couch since the surgery. I am currently 35 weeks and going strong!!

Cerclages are usually very effective from what I have read and heard from friends. I hope that's the case for you

Re: I was told last night that my cervix keeps shortening...
they found my cervix was measuring short at 15 wks and i had my cerclage placed at 17wks. my cervix was measuring around 2cm at the time. since the cerclage it has been around 1.9-2.2 and i am on strict bed rest. before the cerclage was placed the biggest concern was my water breaking, but my dr says that the stitch will help prevent that.
you will probably be on strict bed rest for the week or 2 after the stitch is placed and then your dr will decide what to do depending on how you measure after.
good luck

Re: I was told last night that my cervix keeps shortening...
i had a cerclage put in at 15 weeks scheduled. I had a short cervix my last preg so my dr wanted to do with as a precaution this time i am now 20 weeks and my cervix is measuring 4.3 cm!! at 20 weeeks my last preg without the cerclage i measured 2.1cm. Cerclage def helped me.. i am not on bed rest this time (yet.. hopefully wont be) but they also got the cerclage in before i started to shorten this time. The procedure is soo worth it and since you are shortening so early on i would def suggest it.....even if you do have to b on bedrest with it.... its sooo worth it!! good luck!!
