ICSI with IVF????
Hi everyone! I am getting reading for my ER next week. I have "unexplained fertility". I was wondering if anyone has opted to go for ICSI along with their IVF. I feel like I want to just because I am worried that the eggs won't fertilize being that I never have gotten pregnant. I know that it would be recommended if they felt it was necessary. But I think I would rather do it. Has anyone ever done this? Thanks!

Re: ICSI with IVF????
i did ICSI with my IVF because AFS does it standard. i had PCOS among other things which was our main IF issue, DH had very very minor low morphology and was treated with antioxidants. i had 2 m/c on medicated timed intercourse cycles before IVF so we knew we could fertilize an egg. we retrieved 18 eggs, all were mature, all fertilized with ICSI. we put back 2 perfect day-5 blasts and although both implanted only one developed passed the sac and im 25w with a singleton.
i have 8 frosties so i hope i dont have to do another fresh cycle ever. but if i did i would probably opt for ICSI again just because we had 100% fert rate the first time with ICSI and IMO i wouldn't want to leave it to chance unless it cost significantly more (ICSI was covered under my IVF coverage last cycle).

Re: ICSI with IVF????
We did ICSI with both IVF cycles --but it's standard (and covered by insurance) with MF. The 2nd time, the embryologist actually didn't want to because DH's sample was so good, but given our history they did it anyway. We had 24 eggs and only 6 actually fertilized, so ICSI was a very good thing for us! Given the choice, we would definitely opt for ICSI again, but I think that decision's been made for us already...
Good luck next week!!

Re: ICSI with IVF????
Standard practice at my center. IMHO...if you can afford it..do it. Why take the chance that some unforeseen issue exists? If that happens...you are already thousands of dollars into a cycle that might have gone quite differently had you done ICSI. Also...every embie counts

Re: ICSI with IVF????
Hi, We are unexplained IF also. I just had my ER for my first IVF. My clinic told me that with unexplained cases, they let half the eggs fertilize on their own and fertilize the other half with ICSI.
This is for 2 reasons. First, they can see if it is a fert. issue for you. Secondly, what if they don't fert. on their own? ICSI helps that issue so no eggs are wasted, if you know what I mean.
I didn't have to pay extra for this and I'm glad they do this. It just makes sense.
Wishing you lots of luck this cycle!!!

We did 1/2 ICSI and they fertilized much better than the natural ones....I was 39yo so we needed to see if there was any fert issues.

I go to North Shore. Definitely at least ask about it. You never know, maybe the cost isn't as bad as you think. GL!
