Ideas for kid friendly yard

I did not do any landscaping/yard work this year. That's my major project for the next 1-2 years.

DS will be 1 year old next year and will start walking. So, I am looking for kid friendly yard ideas.

Things to plant, fun things for him to look at, study, play with, etc...

Any ideas????

If you do have a sandbox make sure it has a cover, otherwise it might turn into a litterbox for animals.

I was just going to say the same.

We have quite the "wildlife" (sorry I'm originally a Nassau girlChat Icon ) in our yard and we are getting a cover made for ours.

An organic children's garden would be awesome, just a small area where your child could be "responsible" for their plants. Plant bushes that attract butterflies, but be prepared for some bees. Also bird feeders are great to teach kids about birds, its best to keep the area around them fenced off even if its with chicken wire so little kids aren't tempted to eat the seed that lands on the ground.
IMO the most important thing is not using toxic chemicals.

I agree!

My SIL and brother planted watermelon seeds with my nephews and they LOVED it! Chat Icon

I have 2 dogs so I don't use any chemicals in the backyard.

I agree, DD is 2 and loves going with DH to the garden and watching the birds come and eat.
Definitely a nice swingset.
I am personally anti sandbox but that's just me. I hate the mess it makes and having sand tracked in my house and somehow kids are always finding water and dumping it in, what a mess!
