If A Hurricane 5 was comming towards L.I...
And either we were told to evacuate OR choose to evacuate, where would you go? I know a hurricane 5 is unlikely to ever happen here.. but I was curious where everyone would think was a " safer" place to be.

Re: If A Hurricane 5 was comming towards L.I...
We couldnt ever have a %....the waters here would never be able to support it....even a 4 would happen once in like 500 years, so lets say a powerful 3..which is still BAD.....I would probably go to our family in PA's house...Or to somones house on the middle of the island away from lakes and the shore...Although I probably after seeing this recently in the gulf coast.. LEAVE the island...

Re: If A Hurricane 5 was comming towards L.I...
I wonder with the weather getting warmer every year if in the next few years if even a cat 4 on long Island would happen. I have no idea where I would go... I feel like looking at a map and planning it out. I'm such a worry wart.

Re: If A Hurricane 5 was comming towards L.I...
I am worried about not being able to leave because of traffic I guess I would rather try to stick it out in my house than be in my car on the LIE when the hurricane hits... but I guess it would depend on how much of a warning we would get. I also have no clue where we would go

I don't think our waters are warm enough to ever have a category 5...
But we did have a 3...i believe GLoria was one and we stayed...
But if one was to come i would proably start driving to LV...

Re: If A Hurricane 5 was comming towards L.I...
I remember Gloria, was it a cat3? I remember we were all fine. Maybe some down trees and power lines. Im pretty sure with the kids and all I would get out of town at the first mention of a cat 5 coming towards L.I.. Dont know where I would go, but as someone mentioned before if you waited to long the traffic would be to bad to even get out.

She was pretty bad...there was a ton of coastal flooding. I remember Jetskiing on the streets of Babylon. If I lived in a coastal town, I would probably head for the center of the island. Otherwise, I would stay put. Odds are, if there were a massive evacuation of LI, you would be stuck in traffic on the LIE

Re: If A Hurricane 5 was comming towards L.I...
We live in Centereach, pretty much in the center and high altitude. Our friends in Blue Point already said if there is a big sotrm they don't think they would make it off Long Island, so they would come to my house.

Honestly, I don't think we'd be able to get off the East End even if we wanted to! 27 would be jammed and the ferries would packed.

It takes me 2 hours to get from East Hampton to Bohemia on a regular Sunday afternoon. I can't imagine the chaos there would be!

If we were given enough notice, I'd be on a plane to FL to my parents house, with the rest of my family.

Re: If A Hurricane 5 was comming towards L.I...
The FIRST thing I'd do is get my arse on the computer and book a ferry even if they THOUGHT it might come close. the worst that could happen would be that I'd lose 37 dollars. Then I'd make a b-line for the ferry as soon as they knew it was headed this way.
