If Enfamil Gentlease didn't work for your baby...

what did you switch to (that was better) instead?

He still seems to be in pain but now its while he is eating and the blow out diapers are crazy I know they say its normal but it looks so uncomfortable.

We started with Enfamil then Similac for fussiness & gas then Similac adveance then Gentlease...all which DS did not do well with. My ped. recommended Gerber Good Start Gentle & DS has been doing great on it.

With DS, Gentlease didn't work so we used Similac Sensitive RS and for DD, we now use GoodStart Gentle.

Curious- how long were you on the GEntlease before you switched to Goodstart?

IF after 2 weeks you still see issues then I go to nutramigen (powder only). Gentlease and Good Start are in between products - the proteins are partially hydrolyzed. Baby may need a completely hydrolyzed product. I would not recommend going to Similac Sensative b/c it is a lactose free product and lactose free products are no longer recommended (since it is very rare for a baby to have an intolerance) and lactose is needed in the gut to stimulate the enzyme lactaste to continue working in the gut and fosters good calcium absorption.

My DS has a very sensitive belly. We tried everything, but the one that worked best was Gerber Good Start (Soy), but it did make him a little constipated.

thank you. I didn't even realize its lactose free- sensitive is what a friend bought me similac to use today. meanwhile dr said nutramigen. i am so overwhelmed with all this and confused. I was hesitant to use nutramigen because it says colic and allergy to cow's milk - my baby is not colic and I don't think he is allergic to cow's milk - gut feeling- is that different than lactose? Sorry if that's a dumb question?? I don't understand why he is suddenly having trouble (started at 6 weeks
) he is now 8 weeks sunday. He was on similac neosure up until 6 weeks and did fine until 6 weeks and since he was having gas pain and growing it was time to switch formulas.

Re: If Enfamil Gentlease didn't work for your baby...

I did...

Similac (regular one... from the hospital)
Gentlease (about 2 weeks)
Soy (1 Day)
Nutramagin (the WORST for us... he always seemed to be in pain until he had a blowout diaper) - original doc didn't even do a test for milk allergy, so I'm annoyed that he automatically made us go to this to begin with - and it was TERRIBLE for DS! BUT - other people call it liquid gold. Not me!
New doc backed us all the way up to Gerber Good Start... that was okay for a couple of weeks, but then the colic came BACK, so had to switch again.
Then did Enfamil AR (which he's on now). He did much better on that and I finally felt like I wasn't giving my baby poison!

I don't know if it was the timing or the formula itself, but we landed on AR. And because he also takes medicine for reflux and tried so many different formulas, my doc's office wrote a letter to our insurance and it's now covered. Chat Icon Chat Icon BUT I wouldn't do that until you know which formula finally works for you.

Good luck... I do NOT miss that process! It sucks to see our babies in pain and not know why! Chat Icon

Not that long... She was crazy constipated on Gentlease and in pain, so I just switched after a few days... She's been on it a few months and it's been great!
