I have my eye on about 5 toys for DS, so I was thinking that 1 toy from each family member. A very close friend of DH's family asked what DS would like for the holidays. Is it rude to tell them a specific toy? I will not be offended if you say yes Chat Icon

Usually, I'm vague with friends/extended family. I give specifics to immediate family - grandparents/my brothers, ILs.

I stick with, "he likes coloring books, anything Toy Story, needs pajamas", etc for friends/extended family

I mostly do this b/c I know if I tell immediate family they will get it, and won't be offended if I need a receipt for some reason. Others, may take it as just an idea and then something I hoped DC would get doesn't get bought.

I refer people to my Amazon wishlist which is mostly items for DS. I really mean it when I ask my family to tell me specific items to get for their kids. I have been an aunt for 14 years now and it is a lot easier to be told exactly what the kid might want. Sometimes I will take a general suggestion, like knowing that my niece likes Abercrombie and picking something out from there but I still need to know her size. On DH's side, his sister and I are not shy to tell each other what our kids might want and I am glad for that.

It depends on what it is and who the suggestions are for. If I see something for him that I really like and that I like specific features of one particular item, I will send a link. I find mostly that the grandparents especially appreciate the suggestion.

I would but no one ever asks!

I'm a little jealous of those of you who have family that asks Chat Icon

If there is something that my DD wants and someone asks I would definitly tell them, i mean they would rather know what they want then buy something you can't use.

My SIL sends out texts to ever family member with what toy and clothing item they are to buy for her DS so she doesn't get duplicates....Now that i think is rude and going over the line.

But if they ask and you know....tell!!!

Toys R Us Wish List.........LOVE it!!!! It makes my life and everyone else's soooooo much easier. I get to pick age appropriate things my DD would like and they she doesn't already have, I don't have to deal with duplicates and returns, and I don't have to field 50 calls and emails from everyone asking what she wants. I've used it for her 2 bdays now and Xmas. Everyone in my family and my friends have appreciated my setting up the Wish List.

I'm telling people I have a TRU wishlist for DS.

I hate when people tell me 1 specific thing to buy, I feel so pressured to find it, I like when I just get a few ideas. For a baby though, I think I would like to know specifics thats why I made a wishlist.

Just started doing a TRU wishlist for DD for Xmas- so far responses have been positive. Most people don't want to have to think or take a chance you'll return something IMO

Immediate family my parents, brother and sil they asked and I told them things she might like she will only be 4 months so she won't even notice but they are all going nuts. Anyone else who asked I told them age appropriate things, I even said like Fisher Price, Little tikes they have the ages right on them, just because some of DH family has zero clue what to get an infant.

I would give them a list of specific things. I would rather they give something DC would really want and play with rather than something random or something they already have.

You know what- I think I am going to make an amazon wish list because I need a few things other than toys like a baby gate & teething crib cover.. etc.
and then send it to those that ask this way they can choose what to get DS.

Thanks!

unless it's my mom or MIL I usually say: (well, lately I've said)

"elmo, books, mickey, cars. He has no puzzles, etc."
sometimes I'll say "clothes are even helpful"
